Life back in the good ol' U.S. of A. is full of both positives and negatives.
I get to drive again.
- I have to share the road with the biggest cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs in creation.
I can wash and DRY my clothes.
- I have to fight for washing machine (tv, radio, kitchen, bathroom, sleeping, speaking, breathing) time with my older, and much larger brother. yeah... that's a fair fight.
NPR. I actually kind of know what's going on in the world again.
- Every other radio station still playing the same crap over and over and over that they were playing 6 months ago.
I can really communicate with people again. As much as my spanish improved, it's still a struggle at times.
- I haven't really wanted to communicate with anyone. There sure are a ton of douche bags in Texas.
People don't assume that accidental eye contact is a sexual come-on, and I'm treated as an equal by men... for the most part.
- I'm not exotic here, I'm just the girl next door. And as much as I hated it then.... I haven't been called "guapa" or "reina" in days.... I think I miss it.
I can pick up the phone and call any of my friends when ever I want. (except the ones I left back in Spain.)
- Most of my friends are in Tulsa, and I'm here in Arlington. My one friend left here owns a house, drives a station wagon... oh, I'm sorry. A sedan, has two dogs, is engaged to be married, and works for HUMMER! We hang out and watch basketball and drink beer. Is this my life?
Shoe stores actually carry my shoe size.
- The shoes here just aren't as cool as they are in Spain.
Customer service is nice.
- Southern hospitality is CREEPY! "Why are you talking to me? Don't smile at me like that. You don't know me!"
I'm home.
- I'm not in Barcelona.
