Even bad days are good

I think we can all agree that so far, session 2 is definitely not as good as session 1. For example, during session 1, we had NO disciplinary issues that warranted incident reports, none during the whole two weeks - today alone, there were 4. We've had like 7 cancellations because kids weren't having fun at camp. To be fair, we have 100 more kids this session than we did last session and that is a really hard adjustment to make. But even days like this that ended in tears for some people that I really care about - we find a way to take all of that frustration and anxiety and channel it into discussion about how to fix the problems and laughter about the things that make our days brighter.

Liz talks a lot in her livejournal about James and John, the five year old twins that are the darlings of camp. The past couple weeks, I've been getting really close to them too and I really think that all I need to be happy in life is the friends I have now and James and John. All the affection I'm ever gonna need I get from these two little boys. There's no better feeling that seeing James's face light up when he sees me and running into my arms. There's nothing funnier than when James and I sing "bye bye bye" together over and over again. I could be single forever as long as I have my friends and those boys.

All the apprehension and misgivings I had about this summer and how much camp was going to change and go downhill and only have me, Liz, Nicole, and Liz to stand on to be fun I feel stupid about now. How could have I been SO wrong about this summer. This is the way I've wanted camp to be for 14 years. It's perfect. It's not flawless, but flawless and perfect are not the same thing to me. I wake up excited for camp, go to camp and love it, come home after dark missing camp, and go to bed excited to go back to camp. I'm already having anxiety about the fact that 2nd session is half over. I only have 6 weeks left. How am I supposed to deal with that when I don't want it to end? I don't know but I guess this is really gonna test that "live in the moment, don't think about the future" thing.
