Poor Pixel didn't pass his test for an annoyingly simple reason. I remember how frustrated I was when I failed the first few times (although I have to admit the first two times I deserved it lol)
I certainly wouldn't have passed today, In fact I'd have had some serious grovelling to do if there had been any police about.
This was totally embarrassing (spelling?), the centre section of my exhaust snapped and I had to drive about a 1/2 mile with a serious lack of power, the engine sounding like godzilla farting and the broken pipe trailing on the road making a not so musical sound. I just wanted to put a paper bag over my head, the stares I was getting.
I picked this car up on saturday. It's....a little scruffy shall we say? I don't think it had ever been washed, the paint is faded and laquer peeling off in one place, except for the front end (bonnet and wings)which are nice and shiny, but a different shade of red to the rest of the car since they are actually from a different car.
You see, about a year ago the owner had a little accident and mounted a kerb hitting a lampost and gate. The only damage was to the bodywork, the wings and bonnet were bucked theres a big dent in the back panel and one of the alloys was bent, so it now has alloy wheels at the front and steel on the back. A mate of mine took the car of his hands after this and got new wings & bonnet from a scrapyard - hence the different shade to the front end and has been driving it around since then. I'll smooth out the bump at the back and spray it up myself and just drive it around as it is. Won't be a perfect job but I don't think it's worth paying for a full respray, and anything less is pointless.
I'm gonna sort the suspension too, the kid decided to lower it by putting lowered springs on but leaving the original dampers, which results in a harsh yet bouncy ride. It's frickin horrible. I'm having standard springs put back on and hoping the dumb setup hasn't wrecked the struts or dampers.
Why have I taken on this car with all these problems? because it was FREE and I'm a bit short of cash right now. It's basically mechanically sound, but I have to claim a windscreen replacement on my insurance (cracked).
I don't mind getting a few things done (since the car was free I can afford to pay for a few things) but I really wish the exhaust had lasted another month when the MOT is due, because now if the MOT throws up something expensive I'll be in a no win situation since I've already paid out a bit. Otherwise I could just scrap it.
Nah, it's a solid car underneath so think it'l last me the year or so I want it to. It's definately strange going down to a 1.4 after I'm used to having more powerfull cars but money is too much of an issue right now.
Still no word on the flat, time to see if I can contact the seller direct to find out whats going on. hmpf
