So here I am again at Hotel Parana on their marvelous free internet. I haven´t been here for 3 weeks - I felt like I´d abandoned them! Fanny has gone to visit her mother again but this time Juan won´t be staying in the house - so I can´t either.
Had a brilliant weekend - went to Incarnacion for my birthday for 4 days. We had torential rain for 2 days so most of it was spent in the indoor swimming pool or lazing about in our 5 person room, which was very like a mental hospital. Think no windows, tiles, no air....
I was thrown a surprise party for breakfast with lots of presents and balloons. More swimming...Then Hiroshima, the Japonese restaurant at the local Japonese community centre, which was posh and gorgeous and ohmygod I love Japonese food. We made a friend in our waiter, Ricardo, who remembered us from the night before and wished me happy birthday, gave me a bottle of champagne and us all free starters.
Sunday we visited Trinidad and their Jesuit ruins and missed the bus home....the whole place only had one taxi (this is supposed to be the only official tourist attraction in Paraguay, remember) so waited forever to get one, sat by the side of the long dusty road....saw a bird get hit by a car and nearly got splattered with it. Every car that went past we were watching (obviously not wanting to but it´s one of those things you can´t help but watch, like  a car crash) to see which one would squash it. None of them did but maybe our bus got it. Ha.

Err this week has been just the usual.
Wednesday I was leaving for work when Fanny stopped me and asked me to make my bed (it was already made), brush and wash the floors and clean up, before walking out of the room calling me a whore! Offended as I was, Im not lazy enough to say no and don´t have a problem with doing it, but she´d left the brush out in the rain so it was sopping wet! Many of you may have seen my bedroom at home and won´t believe me when I say this, but my room here is spotless! My clothes are folded on the chair and my bed is made every day, obviously I don´t have all the crap here that I do at home to make a mess with. So needless to say we´re still not getting on and Cathy is reluctant to find me a new family with there being so little time left here.
I´ve also been mugged and have had to buy another phone so that´s a bummer.
Trying to buy presents for a couple of people to bring home but its a nightmare, honestly, there is nothing here to buy that anyone would want. I did walk through the dodgy market the other day and saw a full dried crocodile but I doubt it would fit in my backpack...

Got a HUGE parcel off Dave today and one from Cheryl, both made my whole week. And now I have lots of English sweets, needless to say I´ve already sickened myself so I´m sure the rest will be passed around the group.

Also, a group of volunteers from Denmark arrived in Paraguay on Sunday. One of them is working at Casa Cuna on the mornings, and she doesn´t speak a word of Spanish either! I feel sorry for the girl. However they speak English and we´ve arranged to go out with them at the weekend. I kinda know how they feel in Big Brother now when they get a new person in the house half way through...sad eh!

Anyways.

Chow!
