tunnel rats

A few months ago my friends Pedro, Dav, James, Erin, and I decided to do a little adventure on a whim. Like all great adventures, its impetus lay in a pub. Dav had heard a rumor that there was an immense labyrinth under the UCSD campus that ran for miles.

He took us to an unassuming manhole in a middle of a grassy hill in the center of campus. In the dead of night we stole a steel spike from a nearby construction site and removed the barrier. Almost 30ft below lay the tunnels. But what surprised me the most was the time capsule of UCSD culture, with graffiti spanning miles that dated as far as 1972.
