Well I just registered with duotrope and entered my subs into the tracker - all on the strength of
tlmorganfield's post (thanks ;))
I, too have quite a long pending response from Beneath Ceaseless skies. I hadn't thought about it, and am loathe to get excited, as it is more than likely mine is in the slow lane as I have such a teeny list of writing credits. But you never know...
I've been listening to a lot of podcasts in the carpentry recently. It is amazing how few saw blades I break while listening to a good story, and the work flies past. I'm impressed by Escape Pod. They publish sci-fi, mainly reprints, and the quality is very high. The stories are clever and, hmmm, special? Profound? Multi layered? Very well written and read? Some or all of these.
Podcastle is for fantasy, and hasn't been so astounding, although the stories are entertaining. They don't seem to have the rigour of Escape Pod. And then Pseudopod, the ugly sister, chained in the cellar, is for horror. This takes itself very seriously, and is sometimes a little cold for me.
Then there is The Drabblecast. Ohh fun. Half hourish programmes, with a variety of content from one to three stories per edition. Norm Sherman has a voice of honey. The whole is a little "boysy" - there is a faint air of sweaty bachelor apartments about the place, but again, it is surprisingly clever, sometimes moving, and often silly and surreal.
Beneath Ceaseless Skies and Clarkesworld also do good podcasts, though the sound quality of Clarkesworld hasn't been all that astounding...
A quick note about 2009 - I made around 40 subs and had 4 acceptances. 10%. Not bad for a nobody.
I currently have 7 subs out. I want to get that up to ten by the end of the month. To this end, I pledge to complete a Liberty Hall Flash this weekend. I had about five ideas for stories today, and haven't written anything for a looong time and I feel my head will explode if I don't get some of them out soon.
I haven't been writing due to my partner's health problems - which stopped me posting here, too. I never know whether to use this blog for personal news. I've decided not to for the moment, so with the writing on hold for a month, there has been little to say. I'm impressed by
karagnome's 4hr a day regime. I hope I will be able to settle into it again, soon. For a while my MC's problems seemed very trivial, compared with "real life..."
Apart from setting up a business and beginning to send our wooden products to more shops and markets, my aim this year is to eliminate myself from WOTF, just after I send in a winning story. Gotta have big dreams... ;)
