I Want to Change the World... if Only HOL's...

I never really realized it, not even when reading JK’s books how very clique the very system of Hogwarts School is to begin with. The Houses… they all categorize people. The Brave, the Smart, the Clever, the Nice. It seems very… stupid in my eyes now that I think about it. What in ourselves indicates that we are overtly brave, or overtly smart, or ( Read more... )

Woah. I love the way you characterised the four houses (as in the "true" version), especially Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. I think Hufflepuff also had something to do with acceptance - but I don't know if that's true in HOL/how true it is, and it definitely had something to do with what you were saying as well :)

This is an awesome essay thing. Seriously. It's going in my memories, it's that good. :P

Yes, I do think I belong where I was placed. Curiosity is a large part of who I am.

As for house stuff....I am mostly inactive in HOL at the moment, so this is from about a year ago. I had strong ties in *all* the houses. Mostly in Ravenclaw, of course, but I had good friends from every other house. Relationships between myself and Gryffindor House were strained later, but I kept my good friends from there. (Except some of those friends left or disappeared or I just grew away from - but not because of interhouse issues.)

There are definitely interhouse issues. For instance, Quidditch....I don't think I need to say anymore, but that drama means rifts. (Especially between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, probably.) Quidditch drama hasn't changed much, I've gathered that. I'm not sure about interhouse drama besides that, honestly, but I'm sure there is some somewhere. It's just not as noticeable.

House-bashing happens. Either it's stupid newbies bashing based on stereotypes, or it's "old" members bashing based on the behaviour of selected members of the house (usually high-ups). It never means everyone in that house is doing what the house is being bashed for, because everyone's not. It's only a couple people. And who knows how it can be stopped - people are (usually) smart and do it in private, after all. But then, where *doesn't* stuff like this happen? Heh.....

Oh yes. Mal pointed out the Gollum thing as an example of Ravenclaw curiosity, and I cracked up and had to agree....XD XD XD
