Fic: Williamsburg (Mikey/Alicia, Mikey/Pete)

Aug 13, 2006 20:14

I was trying to explain a concept to Lex and ended up writing a ficlet in the chat window. Here it is.

Mikey's in Williamsburg, drinking coffee and reading. She's glad that her cousin Jake is getting on well with her band, but she's more than a little miffed that he stole her girlfriend.

Mikey was done. She didn’t want to do MCR anymore (she hadn’t really wanted to in the first place, but if Gerard was going, then she had to). Their cousin Jake (who looked like her, if she had been a really buff boy instead of a girl with glasses) had always been a little jealous of their fame, so it was easy to convince him to switch places with her.

Alicia’d stood outside their apartment and given Mikey a farewell Eskimo kiss, promised she'd get Jake settled and then come back, but she didn't. By the time FOB comes to town for the VMA’s, Mikey’s angry enough for revenge sex with Trohman. It is a disaster.

Pete catches her the next morning, trying to sneak out of the hotel at 5 am. "Hey," he says softly. "Wanna watch the sunrise with me?"

They used to do that all the time.

They go up to the roof and he holds her hand and she leans against his shoulder. Mikey remembers how much she loved him, wonders if she still does. He pulls her into his arms and Mikey winds her arms around his waist.

"Why'd you let go of Alicia? Why didn't you just tell her that you wanted her to stay with you instead of going off with me?"

Pete is silent for a long moment. "I wanted you to be happy," he finally whispers. "You deserved that. You deserve all sorts of great shit." He presses his lips to her temple. "You deserved better than me."

"You're better now than you were then," she says.

"Yeah," he says. "Maybe I am." And then he kisses her.

Mikey doesn't go back to her apartment. She comes to soundcheck in the same stuff she had on last night and watches the show from the sound booth. She goes out with the band afterwards and she and Joe are okay again. Patrick and Andy are really welcoming, which worries her a bit. She wonders if Gerard’s been telling everyone that she’s depressed. After a few hours, it doesn’t matter. She and Patrick are talking about CDs that were important to them in high school and trying to trick Joe into bringing them more vegan cookies. On a whim, she rides with them to Boston and lies in Pete's bunk with him, talking softly about random things.

They have sex after the Boston concert and it's the first time that's it's ever been just the two of them. She's a little afraid it won't be exciting since Alicia's not there and Pete's worried that this is the moment Mikey's going to decide she's actually a lesbian, but it's actually pretty awesome. Pete doesn't treat her as though she might be breakable the way Joe did, they each remember what the other liked. Pete's quiet and strokes her back afterward.

They are sort of sickeningly together at breakfast the next morning and she gets a lift to the train station. When she gets home, there's a cryptic, sweet note on Pete's blogspot for her.

Pete goes with her to Jake and Alicia's wedding and kisses her behind the ear when she gets sad. He sends her used paperbacks from the road and tucks love notes inside. She’s happy in Williamsburg.
