well, moving day went well. after getting the keys to the new place, we brought over a small load of stuff to drop off. when we were shown the apartment, the previous resident still had all her stuff in it and we only had about a minute to check out the place. upon further inspection, we discovered that the living room floor slants at about a ten degree angle, there was rat poison everywhere, and the place was absolutely filthy. not the kind of filth that can be cleaned up, either. no, this was disgusting in a way that only years of nasty, white trash people and partying can bring upon a place. when we got back to the "old" place, i broke down in tears because i couldn't imagine living in such squalor for the next ten months. so dylan, always the hero, called our landlords and asked if we could keep this place since it hasn't been rented yet. they agreed, although deb (our landlord) insisted that there was no rodent infestation. well, when we went back to pick up our stuff before returning the key, we pulled out the stove, and lo and behold, there were half eaten containers of rat poison and countless rodents turds littering the ground.
we apologized to our apartment for doubting it when we got back. this place is clean, no rodents, it smells like us, and it is home. despite the cracked tiles, all of our clutter cramped up in here, and the crappy fridge, this place right now is home, and i guess it just took being faced with such a wretched prospect of residence to realize that. all of our stuff is still in boxes, but we did get rid of a lot of crap, so i'm looking at the past week as a sort of belated spring cleaning. we have new, clean, jersey knit sheets on the bed that my mom just bought me at the company store, and we are very happy with our "new" apartment.
we still have lots of crap to get rid of: clothes, movies, stuff in general, if anyone wants to come over and see if the can find anything they'd like. we're all about bartering. got any old crap? we can do a swap night.
anyway, i'm happy to be home with my boy, and happy we got to keep our apartment. time to chill amongst all our packaged stuff, then crawl between new clean sheets. stay tuned for details on the housewarming party.
