I've joined the choir in singing praises about Philz Coffee, no other cup of coffee is worth more than his. Easily trumping any widespread franchise, this mom and pop coffee shop has a bohemian eclectic feel that eliminates formalities even before you step inside. I know most people know right away what they want at Starbucks, spewing their orders with a foreign lingo of coffee made the way they like it. Sometimes I wonder to myself when I walk out of the cafe with my caramel macchiato how much time these people spent figuring out what they prefer in a cup to come up with a grande-decaf-nonfat-sugar-free-vanilla-soy-cafe latte with a shot of ristretto. So when I entered Philz on Sunday with John, I was quick to admit I was a little intimidated at trying something new especially when I've been disappointed countless times and often getting stuck sipping a terrible cup of coffee. So armed with the information that I was a newbie at Philz and that I had a sweet tooth, the barista told me you won't go wrong with Philz Tesora(Treasure). John ordered something or other, he'll have to tell you himself simply in the matter that I don't remember anything he said because I was completely entranced with what the hell our barista was doing behind the counter. There was no blender in sight, not a single bottle of syrup to be pumped furiously and the only noise I noted was the barista belting notes of an indistinguishable opera song. After we made our orders, we sat down on a church pew and watched the makings of a masterpiece. Dually noted, we did not pay for our drinks until after we tasted them telling me they have the confidence and sincerity to guarantee the enjoyment of our purchase. So I guess to sum up, BEST CUP OF COFFEE IN THIS TOWN AND THE NEXT! and there's a clean finish after every sip adding up to minimal coffee aftertaste and equaling almost no bad coffee breath! Bonus points! I can kiss john without pinching my nose!
