Angel's Rest.

I know this will make me sound like a candy ass because it has such heavy traffic, but Angel's Rest is a tough hike! I had Monday off so I decided to try a hike I normally wouldn't because it's crowded on the weekends.

Angel's Rest
Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 4.4 miles, there-and-back
Elevation gain: 1,500 feet
Directions from PDX: East on I-84, take Exit 28: Bridal Veil. Parking and the trail head are probably a quarter-mile from the exit. Roughly a 30-minute drive depending on where in Portland you're coming from.

So yeah, you climb 1,500 feet in 2.2 miles. Any steeper and you'd need ladders.

I'll start with a view from the top where I sat for an hour and shared my power bar with a chipmunk. If I had a tripod and some patience, I would have clipped this into a panorama.

It doesn't take long to get up to 100-foot tall Coopey Falls.

Coopey Creek and the bridge over the creek.

The path is shady until coming up to an area cleared out by a wildfire in 1991.

The path gets a little tricky to follow when you come up to a rock slide. Fortunately, the rock slide means you're getting close to the top.

This little guy is determined to grow in rocks.

You get to climb on this rocky outcrop and walk a little further to get to the rest.

Someone heard the crackling of my power bar. Apparently he's seen enough people to know that crackling means food.

I stuck the wrapper in my bag and let him run off with the bar. He'll have enough protein for a week.
