OOC

Sep 09, 2009 17:51

Sooo, as some of you may have noticed (ie- the people I've been failing at tagging) I haven't been that present lately, except OOCly. This is largely because my RL circumstances have changed a lot in the past few weeks. I've technically been around, but settling into a new schedule has proved to be more stressful than I expected ( Read more... )

Unless something terrible happens, I'll be around a lot for the next few weeks! :D

Awesome! Tosh and Ianto can totally hang out and make snarky commentary on things. Like randomly badly written OC's with no plausible backstory.

Except I rather hope they won't be badly written (of course, I'm sure Tosh won't be :P).

LOL. I hope not. No, Ianto spawned a niece apparently. A drunken, flirting-with-Jack one his age no less.

...I misread that completely. Sorry! I'm not quite sober right now, and I fail at the best of times. XD

Has he? D: I'm guessing this isn't just an aged up version of his existing niece (which would be bad enough). I'll buy the drunken part, but Ianto won't appreciate the flirting with Jack part. And also not even being sure who she is.

It's written by the same person who writes that Kylie muse, so that'll explain it.

Heh. It's still early for me to be drinking.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not fond of fandom OCs no matter who's writing them most of the time. Even great writers just don't seem to be able to pull them off like canon characters or well written non-fandom OCs. Especially when they're actually related to canon characters or whatever.

I've been drinking for about four hours now, so I'm probably making a whole lot less sense than the rest of the internet.

I write quite a few myself, but I've always been one for, you know, attention to detail. And plausibility. And not making them related to canon characters.

LOL. Please let it be for a good reason.

Well, I don't mind other people writing them. I even play with them when they respond to my posts, and I might if a post catches my eye. And I'll be the first to admit I don't dislike all of them. Most people just seem to skip attention to detail or have completely non-sense making concepts.

Just because it tastes good! Alcopops are just like expensive fizzy drinks, really. Plus I'll actually be able to afford booze soon, so I figured it couldn't hurt to buy some now.

I have one that I've been writing for...oh, nine years now. But she's the brainchild of extensively combing over the two years of canon, and taking notes, and actually writing out every single episode to create a plausible timeline for her. It also helps that I have someone who plays the main canon character she interacts with, who is also helpful in stuff like that.

Man, I wish I could be drunk for going to work, but yeah they frown on that. LOL.

I'm generalising. Most fandom OCs you see around last for a matter of months (which isn't a bad thing itself, but it obviously means there's less chance for development), and most people don't seem to think through their ideas properly before creating them. Obviously not all fandom OCs are going to be terrible, just like not all canon characters are going to be played well. It's just something I've noticed seems to usually be the case.

That's probably because alcohol generally has the effect of making people dumber than usual, but it's still frustrating. You could still get drunk when you get back from work?

I might want to be! I do so loathe my job.

Get sneaky drunk? Unless you're one of those really flaily or giggly drunks people probably won't even notice.
