TVU 220: Back To School

Nov 19, 2013 16:19

It promises to be an exciting new semester at Starfleet Academy, especially as a number of highly regarded new visiting lecturers have joined the faculty. If you are lucky enough to take a class with one or more of them we hope you make the most of the opportunity to broaden your horizons:

Dr Gaius Baltar: Dr Baltar originally trained in computer science and has promised to spend some of his time while he is with us working on upgrading Starfleet’s navigational systems and ensuring all of our computers are optimally networked. However, the student faculty will have their best opportunity to interact with him by enrolling on one of his courses in Ethics and Morality, which he has promised will cover a broad range from introductory lectures to post-doctoral level symposia.

Mr Jayne Cobb: Mr Cobb comes highly recommended by his previous employers, who described his critical thinking skills as ‘unparalleled.’ Students on his courses will learn tools to help them to plan ahead for every eventuality and can also expect to learn how quickly to assess each situation and choose the options most closely aligned with their long-term objectives and interests. In addition, we understand from his previous employer that Mr Cobb is looking forward to hosting a lunch-time knitting circle.

Officer Aeryn Sun: Officer Sun will be joining our Literature faculty this semester for a sabbatical, during a leave of absence from her usual post aboard the Leviathan Starship Moya. She will giving a number of lectures and tutorials on her area of expertise: Anguish And The Gothic Romance. We also understand that students and staff will be able to catch up with her at the shooting range after each of her teaching sessions.

Commander Jeffrey Sinclair: Commander Sinclair will be giving occasional visiting lectures for the Comparative Religious Studies and Temporal Integrity departments this semester, talking on his specialist subjects of Reaching Accommodations with Xeno-Religions and The Importance Of Continuity. At present we are unsure of his schedule and understand he may not be able to give much notice before making an appearance, hence we advise interested students to keep an eye on the relevant notice boards for announcements regarding his manifestations among us.

Dr Daniel Jackson: Whilst some of our students might be most familiar with Dr Jackson’s unconventional archaeological theses, it is the Comparative Religious Studies department who have secured his teaching services for the Academy: He will only be available during Week Six of the Fall semester when he will be presenting a series of talks linked by the overall title: “Death: Is It Truly The Final Frontier?” Students are reminded that under no circumstances should they consume jello during one of Dr Jackson's teaching sessions.

Commander Servalan: We were excited to learn that The Commander has agreed to accept the Blake Visiting Chair of Federal Governance: As such she will be teaching courses across several departments. We understand that this semester she will begin with courses on Jurisprudence and Checks, Balances And Absolute Power In The Modern InterPlanetary Federation - all ambitious students are recommended to attend.

(PS. The characters are from: Battlestar Galactica Reboot, Firefly, Farscape, Babylon 5, Stargate SG1, Blakes 7. And of course the milieu is Star Trek).
