Even if he was alone and it was deathly quiet, he was used to unsettling situations and saw no reason to slow his march upward. Though at the sound of footsteps, he did glance over his shoulder for a split second, to see another patient who was taking the

"I'm from the World That Never Was, I guess." He shrugged, following Scott. It was good the lights at least were somewhat reliable; there was flickering, but it was much easier to see than he was accustomed to at night.
Roxas agreed with Scott's plan, having none of his own to offer. He was, however, surprised about what he talked about beyond that. "I didn't even know there was a basement," he replied honestly, wondering how the heck he'd missed that. What was down there? More than spiderwebs and unused furniture, he imagined. Since Scott seemed veteran enough about the place - and possibly weirded out by Matt - Roxas wanted to make sure Matt wasn't completely clueless about the place. "You know about the monsters and stuff, right? That's the biggest worry around here, I guess."
Except maybe some of the other patients. The Nobody looked behind him suspiciously as they moved through the lighted halls with Scott's question, but didn't see anything but his shadow. "No one's following us, if that's what you mean."

"Wait...you couldn't get down there with a group of big guys?" Matthew blinked. What prevented them from going through there? "Was there a bunch of blockades or something?" Now that he thought about it, why was Scott carrying a baseball bat with him? Sure, this place was creepy, but…was having a weapon really necessary?
Just as Matthew began to stare at the baseball bat in confusion, the Canadian caught a strange movement out of the corner of his eye. He reflexively looked to his side, searching for anything. But…yet again, it was just his shadow. Maybe it was just his glasses or something?
It took a moment for Matthew to realize that Scott had even been speaking. Once hearing the faint voice, he looked away from his shadow and towards the fellow Canadian. “Oh, eh…there’s nobody else here. Why?” Was Scott hearing noises or something? It didn't occur to Matthew that Scott could have been experiencing something similar. After all, what Matthew was seeing was clearly a part of his imagination.
Once they reached the top of the steps, Matthew turned his attention towards Roxas as he spoke. The “I don’t know where Canada is” was fairly predictable, albeit disappointing. But the next statement, however, was far from predictable. “The World T-That Never Was?” He gawked, momentarily unsure of what to say. ….Was this going to be something similar to Scott’s predicament?

Slowly, he resumed climbing, going back the question about the basement: "Anyway, correction - I kind of made it down with myself and a one-man army once before that. We were stopped in the first room by a two-headed fire-breathing monster from Hell." If Other Matt hadn't heard about the monsters before, well, he had now. The more people who knew what to prepare for in the basement, the better.
He mostly ignored the talk about origins, other than chiming in with a quick "Canada here too" at one point. As far as Scott knew, Other Matt was secretly Canadaman, which explained his constantly referencing his home country. As for the kid: with a name like "Roxas," a mysterious black coat, and a home name that included about as many parts of speech as actual naming words, Scott had to figure that they were working off of very different genres. Maybe he was anime? With that hair, maybe... Scott scrunched his eyes shut before he got too far on that train of thought, the words "You are Scott Pilgrim from the comics?" beating against the inside of his skull.
Swear to god, I am going to write some horrible Martin Landel fanfiction where he likes to wear girlythings and sniff underpants and have people poop on his face and stuff. Then there will have to be a world created where that is totally true and there's nothing he can do about it.

It seemed the pattern of not understanding one another was going to continue though, as Scott referenced a "Hell" that the monster would have come from. The trait of fire-breathing didn't exactly elicit a memory of either Heartless or Nobody, so Roxas was nearly convinced it wasn't either. Having been in the same location for more than a couple of days without hide nor hair of either species - aside from a few assorted Organization members - probably should have been worrisome. But monsters, honest monsters were kind of a breath of fresh air.
For one, he didn't have to worry about releasing hearts.
The thought warmed the Nobody a tiny bit as they cleared the stairway, quietly piling into the entrance of the second floor.
