Night 52: Janitor's Closet

[From here]What Xemnas encountered upon entering the small, narrow room cluttered with many items was a distinct lack of any organization. In the mess, they were bearing no sense of apparent logic in the way they were stored. The Nobody carefully squeezed through the room to get a better look at its contents, keeping an eye upon the narrow shelving ( Read more... )

Although he was too busy running after Scott and Roxas to say anything, a look of bitter anger crossed over Matthew’s face at Scott’s explanation of the Special Counseling sessions. This type of brainwashing…it really did remind him of the type of stuff that went on in asylums for political prisoners. So he was right in suspecting that there was something not right with the nurses here.

And then, as they reached the janitors closet, he thought about Scott’s next comment, and literally froze in his spot. “Wait…you’re saying it’s possible for the doctors to give the patients their powers back?!” If what Scott said was true …than that might mean that his connection to Canada still existed, but they had just somehow blocked it off. And if that was the case, than there was a chance that Canada was okay! Matthew really could not fight off the hopeful smile that appeared on his face. “T-That’s really great!”

Clueless to how odd he sounded, Matthew entered into the janitor’s closet and began to scan the area, his mood significantly improved in an instant. Still...regardless of this good news, he needed to find a weapon to take care of himself. Afterall, if what they had encountered earlier was a regular occurance, than he wouldn't last long without a weapon with him. Chewing on his bottom lip thoughtfully, he quickly tried to look over as many visible objects in the room as possible, judging each ones potential use as a weapon.

However, before he could start going through the boxes, his attention was drawn to Roxas’s question. “You don’t know what batteries look like?” Matthew blinked awkwardly. “Um…their small…black metal things…and…depending on what kind of batteries the flashlights take they can be either box-ish or circle-ish.” He explained, using hand gestures to show the shapes the entire time. “If you can’t find any, I’ll try to find some for you!”

Just like the first time Scott had been up here, someone else had beaten them up here. Unlike last time, whoever had beaten them had been good enough to leave the door open. No embarrassing jump kicks delivered to unlocked doors, then, Scott thought with a quiet sigh of relief. He wasn't sure what Other Matt thought was so great about giving powers back to patients if they were just going to be brainwashed into being total dicks, but whatever, more power to him, he thought as he piled into the room with the others.

Roxas's question confirmed that The World That Never Was was a little more than a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from Canada. If they didn't have batteries there, Scott was striking it off his list of potential vacation spots right away. He looked around while Other Matt explained, annoyed by the flickering light from outside making it hard to keep his eyes in one spot for long. It was also making him swear he could see a fourth presence sneaking up behind them, but that was just his paranoia acting up again, no doubt; he paid the feeling no mind.

Finally, he spotted them. There were about six packages of batteries sitting on a shelf, more than enough for the three of them. Not thinking about anyone else who might be coming up here later for the same thing, he took all six packages down and handed two each to Roxas and Matthew. His two packs went straight into his coat pockets. "Here we go. Each set of these things lasts for about three or four days in your flashlight, maybe longer if you conserve the energy," he explained to Roxas. "I dunno. I didn't really keep track too much."

Following that, he checked around for potential weaponry. Knives was still defenceless until he could get something into her hands. Thankfully, it didn't take long to find something that would suit her - a box cutter. It was small, but it was a knife, at least. Also, Scott had given a box cutter to Remy before, and that guy was still alive, right? He grabbed it up and slipped that in his pocket as well. There were a few metal left, but Scott figured it would be better to let Roxas and/or Matty grab those if they wanted them.

When they were all finished and stocked up, Scott motioned for them to leave. Just as they were moving out, however, the intercom came to life again. This time there was no doctor lording over them, however. There was only the voice of a broken woman, and she was warning them about facing things. What? What does that even-
