[from
here with Spock]The doctor jerked with surprise. Spock seemed to appear right at his elbow, and he'd be damned if his heart hadn't set to racing. He'd just been just starting to think that maybe that encounter with that statue was a fluke, and there'd be no surprises down here, and then that damned Vulcan had to go ahead and see if he could

There were more patients up on the second level than Castiel had anticipated, but he didn't let that bother him. It was likely that most of them weren't going to the same place as him, though he'd just happened to run into the one patient who was. It was odd, but Castiel had long ago given up on the idea of a fate that was set in stone. He'd spent too long trying to defy that concept.
He glanced around for a moment, taking in the different directions they could go before turning to face the stranger. "Where from here?" he asked, his tone curt and to the point.
Though before the man had a chance to answer, the intercom came on. Castiel didn't know where exactly the voice was coming from, but the words came through clear enough for him to follow along easily. It wasn't difficult to recognize the signs of torture, and he was immediately reminded of Alistair. Though that demon would have made things far worse for the woman, and it wasn't something he wanted to think about.
The way the man was judging them on high actually did remind him of a few angels he'd met during his long existence, which just made it more obvious how there wasn't much difference between demon and angel.
The lights started to malfunction then, sputtering and sparking in a way that reminded Castiel of what happened when an angel approached. He spent a moment looking for one -- Michael, Zachariah, or even Lucifer -- but there was nothing. Just the flickering lights.

His gaze dropped to the floor as Landel continued to talk. The Doctor wished-not for the first time-that he knew where the man spent his nights so that he could face him, and warn him to stop what he was doing, to stop tampering with time and to stop hurting people. But he didn't have the slightest idea where Landel might be (up, maybe; he'd seen a third floor from outside but the stairwells didn't reach that high), and without a chance to talk to him...
The bursting of a light startled the Doctor back into the here and now. The flashlight in his hand flickered like it had in the impossible hallway last night-right, the angel; he had more immediate concerns...
"This way," he said, adopting a quick pace as he started walking again, heading down the hall.
