Upon hearing the sudden outburst, Spock raised an eyebrow at McCoy. "It was not my intention to startle you," he said simply. "Perhaps you would do well to observe your surroundings more closely so you will not be caught off guard again, Doctor." Judging by the cryptic message from Landel, it was very likely that he would attempt to disrupt their plans at some point in the evening. They would need to move quickly in order to make some progress, but also take care that they did not leave themselves exposed to an attack.

Once they reached the top of the stairs, Spock paused long enough to swipe his flashlight across the floor and walls. There were no other patients nearby, nor any signs of activity from the institute's creatures. Satisfied for the moment, turned to look at McCoy.

"There are several labs in the most northwestern portion of the floor," he informed him in case he wasn't already aware. He'd intended to look there last night once he'd verified one of the locations he and McCoy had been transported to three nights ago, but Goku had distracted him. Spock was confident this attempt would yield more results now that he was working with a trained Federation officer.

"We shall begin our search there and work through the remainder of the area as we see fit," Spock added.

Flashlight in hand, he led the way.
