Nightshift 51: Main Hallway 2-East

Sep 06, 2010 10:50

[ From here.]Once out of earshot from the center hall's antagonist, Venom pulled himself away from the wall and wandered outward, briefly assessing their location. He'd never been to this side of the institute before (though, to be perfectly honest, it looked the same as all the other halls), and he hadn't thought to carry the map Edward had given ( Read more... )

[From here.]Stepping foot on the upper floor for the second time that night, Sechs quickly took in his surroundings for any dangers. To his right he caught sight of a small group emerging from another staircase while to his left was a battle Sechs felt the intense urge to join once he laid eyes on it. The commotion going on around the same area where he himself had that encounter with the monster appeared to be under control at least; the patients involved looked like they had what it took to fight. Sechs had to mentally drag himself back to the task at hand. He couldn't barge into a battle like that, not with his ribs all busted up! Besides, it was the hall directly in front of Sechs that he needed to get to ( ... )

I certainly hope the room we're looking for isn't too far ahead, Ratigan thought to himself as he walked down the hallway. He had realized that actually talking to his companion couldn't possibly result in anything besides hurt feelings and bruised egos (both hers, of course), and had decided to limit nearly all "conversation" to within his head. After all, the most intelligent person he could possibly speak with was most likely himself.

As he scanned the hallway, Ratigan couldn't help but sigh with relief. Callisto had made it all too obvious that there were indeed monsters or what have you lurking the hospital's corners, so it was a boon indeed that the two of them hadn't run into any thus far. It wasn't that Ratigan was afraid that he wouldn't fare well in a fight with any of the beasties in this hellish place, it was just so inconvenient whenever Ratigan was forced to fight something.

Callisto scanned the halls. There were others about, and they all seemed to be moving in the same direction. That led her to believe that what they were looking for was that way as well. It also meant there was little chance they'd get there before they did. Their best option, then, was to stick close to the group without following and see what happened. If they were lucky, there would either be an argument over the wanted paper, or they'd trigger whatever trap was set up there.

Either outcome left them in a better position to make something out of the situation. She stood at the end of the hall they'd all turned down, eyes narrowed. Without a map, she had no way of knowing if that even was the appropriate hall, but all signs pointed to that being the case. They'd stay here for now, unless Ratigan decided to take matters into his own hands.

Laying low and waiting, eh? Perhaps Callisto wasn't as dull as she seemed. One of Ratigan's favorite things to do during a heist was wait until a panic ensued, leaving the treasure ripe for the picking. It wouldn't be nearly as easy in this setting (unless everyone in the entire building showed up, and even then Ratigan had no idea if that would be enough people for a full-scale riot); someone was bound to notice two people quietly sneaking in and trying to purloin the coveted slip of paper.

Nevertheless, it was a solid plan from the mind of such a brutish girl. Ratigan would play along for now, but if the wait was too long and the paper risked being stolen by someone else, Ratigan wouldn't hesitate to swoop in and claim what was rightfully his. Having a bargaining chip such as this could be a valuable asset indeed during his stay here.

The group was moving ahead, so soon they would need to move too or risk losing sight of whatever the consequences of searching for the paper would be. Wouldn't it be something if the others just up and vanished the moment they walked through the door? It wasn't as if she could put that past the Head Doctor at all. Hadn't she been told he'd done similar exploits just before she'd arrived? No, she was prepared to see anything, though so far the hall looked relatively clear.

Landel was privy to anything that was said over the radio. He'd already proved this, which meant he already knew what this Marc character was up to. If that was the case, then how could anyone expect him to allow anyone to get a hold of anything that might actually help them. For that matter, why would their little rebel friend think he could get away with it in the first place?

This whole situation was curious. And ridiculous. "What do they really think they're going to achieve, I wonder?"

"In theory," Edward answered, watching the darkness behind them steadily in case anything should decide now would be a good time to rear its ugly head - assuming all of the creatures lurking during the night had heads. Because of the form of that corpse he had come upon, it was easy to think that Landel had quite a bit of imagination in creating them... if he did ( ... )

"I know where we are," Bella answered quietly to the two of them, walking ahead of the group - without worry - and down the hallway, her flashlight now pulled out of her pocket and clicked on as so she could see better. "Further down there was where I got a medical pack from after busting down a door," she answered proudly, turning to look at Venom before continuing on down the hallway. "And I'm pretty sure the other nurse areas are down here ..."

There were a few other men already walking down the hallway, and she wondered if they were going for the same thing. Surely everyone could get along, right?

Lunge slipped past the ticking man without a hitch- even if he could hear the blood pounding in his ears. That had been a rather closer encounter than he had wanted. He needed to be clear headed in case of emergency, able to access his databank at any moment; as it was, he was already at the door to the nurses’ areas when his pulse had settled enough for him to see past the white noise of tension and reconnect. That distance- that short walk in which he’d been left completely alone- that had been deadly. One wrong move… but he digressed. Forward, and don’t look back.

Movement up ahead- one person, gender indeterminate, in the targeted corridor. Potential rival/ ally. Is alone; cannot refuse 'assistance'.

When they reached the second floor's main hall, a flicker of light caught Anise's eye, and she immediately turned off her flashlight as a reflex, to hide herself in the darkness. Looking across the hallway, she could see what looked like a fight, with fire and blades flying. Fortunately, that was far into the central area - not where they needed to go.

"Looks like I picked the right path," Anise whispered, relieved that it wasn't them over there. "There was a brainwashed patient over there last night. I guess it's a risky place to pass through." It wasn't one that people normally warned others about, but the second floor was generally less traveled than the main floor, so maybe not many people knew about the dangers up here ( ... )

Ilia considered herself to be a good judge of character and she was generally proved right in her assumptions. It was only natural that she trust Anise. The girl had helped her out so much in such a little time, and with no incentive or reward waiting for her. Sure, they weren't incredibly close, but Ilia would never turn a blind eye to someone in need, least of all a child. And besides, Ilia genuinely liked Anise. Just the thought of anyone bullying her, or even worse...!

Ilia smiled, glad to hear Anise had taken her up on her offer. She didn't know if Anise was just saying that to appease her or if she was genuinely serious about coming to her in a time of need, but it set Ilia at ease all the same.

The fight down the hall was less of a surprising sight from the one downstairs, but Ilia still maneuvered herself in front of Anise once again before starting down the hallway the younger girl indicated. She mentally noted the danger zone but didn't want to stay any longer than necessary.
