Urgh!! That damn monster just HAD to crash off that balcony and drag Sechs down with it, didn't it?! Even if that big lump of hair and muscle became a make-shift cushion for Sechs before he tumbled to the floor, the fall was still took a lot of damage. Every step he took was a painful one as he continued his prowl down the hallway. ( Read more... )

"... But it's not just brainwashed patients you should watch out for," Anise cautioned Ilia, looking back up to meet her eyes. "Some people are just dangerous. You can't trust everyone here just because they're trapped too." Sync had proven that several times, and Anise had a feeling that he wasn't the only patient twisted enough to hurt other people. Ilia seemed like she might be a good judge of character, but the warning still seemed necessary. It was probably hard to believe that someone could be so petty as to attack other prisoners when they all shared the same enemy.

The farther they walked, the emptier the hall became. It looked like very few patients had taken this route. On the bright side, maybe that meant the storage rooms were still untouched. The downside was that they were more likely to attract the attention of monsters.

Anise shone her flashlight around the hall as they neared the stairwell, watching for suspicious movements. "We'll have to go up these stairs," she told her.

Ilia was still not fully convinced they were on Earth, and while the world around them screamed 'mundane' during the day, the more she heard about the night the more she doubted. People with fantastic powers, mythological monsters and an evil mastermind behind it all. Was it really some military experiment? A mad scientist's crazy scheme? Or something more sinister?

"Sounds like someone's having fun with all of this..." Ilia held her anger in check, but just barely. She had been so intent on the night, the potential danger that surrounded them, that she hadn't noticed the stuffed creature on Anise's back until then. And she now dismissed it as nothing more than a doll, something that suited Anise as much as her bright smile and cheerful giggle; an extension of herself. Well, if Anise needed her doll with her, that was fine with Ilia. She had no use for good-luck charms or trinkets, but she wouldn't begrudge the child hers.
