Now that he was thinking over the words he'd just spoken, he couldn't believe he had just done so. Already tonight felt so detached, as if he was an observer watching his body move and talk through a sheet of glass. Perhaps he was much more skilled at cutting of his sense of sheer and utter panic than he had ever realized.

Hurrying to her fiance's side, Bella sat herself down and allowed her hands to settle in her lap, worry clear on her face. "So ... he's been giving you blood?" she asked, somewhat ... well, hurt. She could have given him some of hers if he was so desperate, even though she knew he would probably rather die. "You could have asked me and I would have given you some ..."
