Night 51: M-B Block Hallway

Aug 28, 2010 16:11

[From here.]Locke made a point to be as careful and quiet as possible, looking past the hallway to make sure no one else was trailing him. Well, anyone with hostile intent, anyway. Once the cost was clear, he stepped quietly into the hallway, prioritizing in the most rational way as possible. He didn't have a weapon to protect himself with, nor ( Read more... )

The noble had to sigh to himself. He also wished there’d been more of an opportunity to speak to Sasuke, at least where the more sensitive topics were concerned. Now that the basement objective was in progress, the other stuff would have to wait. Had their positions been reversed, Aidou might not have been pleased to have his business with an Institute doctor voiced in front of Zack.

The man’s perpetual upbeat nature alone was not something Aidou was used to being around at night--it was something he would have even avoided, where it was found in girls like Senna and Anise. Sure, by human standards, Zack was more mature than them by quite a few years (for Senna, perhaps more than just a few), but he was still fairly new. As the Institute took greater and greater tolls, what would they look like? Would these sorts of easygoing questions be what suffered first?

Gaze roving the darkness at the same time he searched for traces of blood in the areas beyond, he replied with, "Well enough." Which was a lie as much it was the truth, but there was no room to confess his moods and failures and circular theories. "The only thing that’s changed seems to be the frequency in which weird events are occurring. I do have something interesting to share: I talked to one of the prisoners who met this Marc in person the night the doors were spelled. I don’t believe she was lying, so neither was he about making contact."

A standard enough question here, and one that Sasuke was beginning to hate. The nights flew past so quickly here, and when they didn't they dragged with abruptness into one thing or another that interrupted even the simplest goals, until the only answer he could give was a terse: "There have been complications."

Aidou's comment was a relief of a distraction; Sasuke had noticed the strange increase in unusual events as well. From what he could remember, they had gone weeks without such disturbances before, but it had been close to nightly and daily of late. And as for actually meeting the voice on the radio -- that was unusual, but it had happened before.

He opened the door to the next hall before responding, moving with familiarity in the halls that had taught him how to navigate blindness.

[[sorry for taking so long to move them here!! T_T]]
