here and waiting for the opposite one.~]The hall was as empty as she had seen it. Silence glistened as severe as any palpable source. Voices echoed in the distance, but here there was nothing. No one. No sounds, but the dull creaks of a settling building and shifting ghosts. Last night gave rise to a new awareness. She did not take the

As soon as she pointed her flashlight in the direction of the stairs, she noticed him. While she normally would have found something a little funny about him carrying around a pillowcase -- probably the syringes and whatever else he needed -- like he was Santa Claus or something, she was instead too pleased to see him to pay much mind to it.
She ran up immediately, a little bit of an excitable skip in her step. Helping people did that. As much as she probably should have been grim and gloomy that people were in trouble to begin with, and as much as a part of her mind acknowledged that, she couldn't shake the pride in being useful for once. Noah would be throwing a fit if he were here, but Peter was letting her participate.
It was refreshing.
"Hey, you beat me," she said it with a smile, like there'd been some unspoken competition between the two of them. It wasn't surprising, really, even though there was a sixty-something percent chance his room was further from the stairs than hers. She'd gotten held up talking to Bella, as she was prone to do, and he knew the grounds better than she did.
Mostly, there was just a hint of satisfaction in her voice that he'd made it at all. It meant there were no monster sightings so far, and it meant he was safe because henceforth, he'd be with her. Her eyes wandered down to the pillowcase.
"Is that everything we're gonna need?"

At her first comment, Peter returned the smile and tilted his head. "Well, I would hope so. Do you know how many times I've headed out here?" That was kind of a depressing question if he thought about it too hard, but he was really just trying to make a point. Spending some time here led to learning to get around quickly.
As for the girl's question, Peter glanced down at his pillow case and then pulled it back up into his grip, slinging it over his shoulder as he tried to not think about how silly it probably looked. Claire was too nice to tease, wasn't she? Although there was no telling with family.
"I think so," he said with a nod. "I've got some bandages, the syringes, disinfectant, and even gloves." Staying sanitary was a luxury, but he was glad to have it. He didn't want someone's wounds to get infected just because his hands weren't clean enough for the job.
"Did you decide what order you wanted to do this all in?" he asked with a curious glance. "The file room is just down there, you know." Getting the files could be surprisingly fast and easy, but that all depended on whether or not they got attacked.

"A lot more than me? Still, my rooms just right there." She pointed back through the wall, like he'd somehow be able to see F34 from there. "And I've got a cheatsheet," the addendum seemed more like a reminder, as she realized he didn't have paper at all. Considering this was Peter she was talking to, though, Claire had a lot of faith that he'd already worked out a good way to get the map copied regardless.
"Anyway. If the file room's close, we should get that done first. I mean, like you said, the rooms won't even be open yet this early, right?" With a quirk of her head and without waiting for a response, she turned and started down the hall. It was a good thing he'd been left in charge of supplies -- after so much time healing, she wouldn't have thought of gloves or disinfectant at all. Then again, she was also used to just shoving her ribcage back together and walking away, so general care for normal people's wounds was pretty beyond her in general. It was good to have Peter around and know that he had a lot better idea of what he was doing with that stuff.
"Have you been inside already?" She glanced over her shoulder at him, curious. "I mean, you don't seem all that interested in seeing what their records look like is all. But it might tell us where we are or how they're limiting our abilities." Of course, he probably didn't need it laid out for him. He'd probably already thought of it, which made her feel a lot less clever for it being the first place she wanted to go.

The mention of a cheat sheet reminded him of the maps, and he nodded in response. He was going to have to copy those down soon, but that was always something he could try to do the next day, so long as he was discreet. He just had to make sure to take them from her at one point. In any case, the maps weren't really that important for getting around the blocks. It was when they moved further out or upstairs that they became really useful.
It looked like Claire had taken his words to heart, though, as she started for the file room without a second thought. Now they just needed to hope that they got in and out without any interruptions, but he thought they might be able to manage it. It might require breaking through a few doors, but that was still up in the air for him. He hadn't actually been there himself, but Sam had shown him the way. They'd just gotten teleported, so he was pretty eager to see the files for himself by now.
As expected, Claire had a lot of questions, but Peter made sure to keep them moving toward their destination, figuring that they could talk and walk so long as they weren't too loud.
