The latest intercom announcement filled Aigis with a sense of dread. Aborting her attempt at writing in her journal, Aigis stood silent for a moment then paced to the closet to retrieve her baseball bat. She would normally have offered her roommate some assistance during her first night in the institute, but Kay had already expressed during

... would he?
The fear Shinra had spoken of passed through the Dullahan a moment, causing her to open her eyes back. A quick check and her head was still there. The dream still. She sat up and sighed hard, trying to shake the feeling as she thought on it. Celty hadn't thought about it before since Shinra had always thought that she would leave once she got her head back but... what if he was the one who left for it? Was that the only reason he stayed around her in the first place? Because she didn't have a head? That wasn't her only "good" quality to him, was it?
I need to wake up she decided after a while. Wake up and try not to have dreams like this again. She'd be better off having the regular dreams that ended too soon. Now what is it you do...?
She looked to her hands and wondered only a moment about why she couldn't see any smoke (right, a dream) before taking her fingers and pinching the backside of one. Instead of a sudden awakening in her bed, Celty did as someone would normally do when getting pinched. React.
Ow! she winced, letting go just before pausing. That... was supposed to be how it worked. Pinch yourself and wake up. She'd seen it in some of the shows on television. And part of the reason it was supposed to work was because it didn't hurt in a dream.
... So...
Impossible Celty told herself, almost jokingly. This was definitely a dream. It just had to be. I just... didn't do it right is all... And with that she again made the pinch, this time trying to be a bit harder for effect. Still she remained, and still the pinching caused the back of her hand pain, but there were no thoughts of reacting this time. Not to the pain, anyway.
"It hurt" was all she could think. It hurt to pinch herself and she was still there. Once she could get her mind around those facts her hands went straight to where she'd felt her head. But she didn't stop short this time; she checked everything. Hair and ears... mouth, nose and eyes... she even ran fingers over the eyebrows before her hands fell and clasped onto her neck. By the time she got that far she was again trembling. There were too many questions and way too much emotion, yet just one thing she needed before trying to sort through anything: A mirror.

Calm down. Celty folded her hands as she began to pace back and forth. Don't panic. Just don't panic! There's an explanation! There's always an explanation! She stopped, looked up and spotted the door. If he just went and found somebody she could get this whole thing sorted out! Shinra preferable, but at this point she'd even settle for that batty old man of his if it'd get her some answers!
She nearly rushed for the door but stopped again, remembering the situation. Strange room, no helmet, no PDA. She was sure enough of her... of her probably not needing her helmet, but the PDA was how she communicated. Without that she couldn't...
She could...
Slow didn't even begin to describe the rate at which Celty moved her lips to parting. It was there, ready to be used. Ready for her to speak words through it, dreamed up or not. Breath was all that came for a long while until Celty finally drew a deep breath and forced sound. "I...!" she said, then clapped her hands over her mouth before quickly rushing to the desk again, grabbing the journal and the first pen she could find and leaving the room.
Too real, too real, too real!
