Night 50: Laundry Room

Aug 01, 2010 11:18

[from here]This room had a shocking change in temperature and humidity compared to the hallway. Once again, Aigis was struck with how differently her body reacted compared to just a simple rush of data to her processors. The clammy heat clung to all her exposed skin and hair, making her feel heavier and sticky. The smell was at least partly ( Read more... )

With the words said, Aigis seemed to accept them, and the other girl continued her trek down the hall. Rei followed, accepting the course, and noting the path taken. Aigis chose a door and moved into the room, and Rei followed.

Soon, it seemed, much to her regret. The heat and humidity in the room left her wanting, and no more than a minute within returned the light-headedness that Rei had gotten over. It made sense, of course. A cause and effect. Still she took to leaning a hand on the wall near the door as the other girl looked around, eyes half-shut as she waited.

Aigis took a quick moment to look through one of the washer-dryer set but she found nothing, as she expected. Her breath leaving in a huff of frustration, she turned back towards the door. Rei was positioned near the wall, unmoving. Aigis approached her, concern again filling her eyes.

"Are you quite certain you can carry on?" Aigis asked as she neared. She placed the bat in the crook of her flashlight arm and reached her free hand towards Rei's. Like Aigis' own skin, hers felt a bit damp and heated.

Perhaps it was just the atmosphere here, but what if the girl had been hiding this weakness during the entire time of their exploration? Could she really continue under this strain? "Should we go back?" Back downstairs, back to Rei's room, back to Aigis' room, it didn't much matter as long as they were someplace safe.

She almost didn't notice when Aigis returned to her side, the light pressure of a hand her first solid awareness. Rei jolted slightly, straightening off the wall. "I am fine."

Truth and a lie. She looked towards the door. She would be fine, if perhaps they moved to a cooler place. "...It's just warm." She was being a burden. She understood this, and was more than unhappy. Neutrality preserved, however, even if the slightest bit showed for a moment.

Aigis released Rei's hand when she responded, aware that her touch was no wanted. Rei was much more independent than any other person Aigis had ever met. It was unusual, seeing someone so completely repulse all offers of help and reassurance.

"Then we shall leave." Aigis repositioned her bat in hand and made for the door.
