Trying to communicate with Abe was seriously becoming a drag.  Not that it was Abe's fault, but...   Even if Neku wasn't talkative on the best days, he still didn't have to worry about anyone understanding what he said.  Apathetic teen was universal.  Leave it to this place though, to stick them in pairs or groups and make them work ( Read more... )

Huh. So there really was an outside here. Abe leaned over the edge and rested his elbows on the railing for a moment, the cold air clearing his head. From the sounds of their voices they were also having language complexities, Landel had switched off the entire place ( ... )

Neku followed, sizing up the side of the wall. Even with Abe's help, he wasn't going to get far. There weren't many places he could use as hand-holds, boost or not. He pulled the two pins from his pocket. Radio Waves huh? Might as well try it out ( ... )

Abe didn't know 'dangerous', but the hand gesture was explanation enough. He scampered away towards the opposite wall, cautiously watching Neku in the dim starlight. The influx of new stimuli and an interesting situation were slowly breaking down his apathetic walls and the psychic was actually interested in what was going on around him. Perhaps the roof was a futile quest, but they were still farther than they'd been before ( ... )

Even if the exaggerated gestures were a little much, Abe seemed kind of impressed. Plus it was the first time he'd seen the guy smile all evening. Not that he cared or anything, but it was a lot better than moping around. Neku shrugged, trying not to seem embarrassed by the praise as he made his way back to the wall. Setting his headphones more securely around his neck instead of over his ears (just in case!), he brushed his hands off and started up.

The climbing was pretty precarious and it took him a bit to get his bearings. Not like free-climbing rock faces was common in downtown Tokyo or anything so he didn't exactly have a lot of experience. He learned real fast that climbing worked better though, if you hugged the wall as close as possible. Now he just had to hope they could get all the way up without falling to their deaths. Great.

And out into the night air, a sensation that was no longer quite so interesting, now that those giant birds wouldn't attack him. He would just have to look for other sources of entertainment instead!

...Like those meatbags attempting to scale one of the walls. Hmm. Why hadn't he thought of that? "Statement: Two meatbags over there are doing something rather intelligent. How unexpected." He pointed towards them for Ratchet's benefit, unsure whether it was now light enough for the other former inorganic to distinguish them.

Ratchet couldn't make out anything HK was saying, of course, but followed the bot's gesture to see two humans fussing with one of the walls. "The slag are those two doing? Trying to climb it?" Humans seemed to be pretty decent climbers, if Sari was any indication. If these two could manage it, that might be a viable way up to the third floor.

Being careful not to shine his light at them, Ratchet watched the pair with interest. Hopefully it wouldn't be too difficult to mimic them if they made it.
