[from
here]It looked like the hallway opened up over here. Guess he couldn't expect to just run around and follow a linear corridor forever, but now he had to figure out which way he wanted to go. Normally, he'd just run down whatever hallway he happened to lay eye on first, but again, he was running a liiittle blind here

There was nothing to be scared of. It was just a hallway. It was the same hallway she'd walked through a few times now during the day, so what could be different about it now? Just because it was dark, really. Minako hadn't been scared of the dark since she was a kid, so it was ridiculous to start now.
It would have been a bit more reassuring if the coiled whip she was holding in one hand was the real thing, fairly crackling with energy and ready to be used against a deserving monster. Like it had been last night, when she'd been able to transform again. It had to be something about this place, didn't it? Like when the Dead Moon Circus was in town, that... force field thing Ami had mentioned. And this time she didn't have a helpful Artemis around, either.
Minako glanced around once, warily, then sighed and started to move on. Standing around fretting about it wasn't going to do any good, now was it? She needed to go find something useful to do.

Sheet held tightly around his shoulders, Kurt made his way through the hallways--standing upright and trying to look as inconspicuous as possible. Which, as both Kon and Peter had pointed out, was next to impossible when a white sheet was involved. He really needed something that camouflaged better.
There was no sign of Logan yet (Kurt would have definitely known if he was there--even Logan's shadow was distinctive), so Kurt positioned himself against the wall of his room block, waiting and gnawing on his bottom lip. This was the first time he'd been out of his room by himself, and it was making him nervous. He hoped Logan would hurry up...

She knew what the creatures she'd encountered back at home felt like, but would the supposed monsters that roamed the halls at night here feel like the Dead Moon's minions? Or those nasty daimon creatures? There had been a subtle difference, but the uneasy crawly itch-between-the-shoulders evil feeling they gave her hadn't changed no matter who the enemy was at the moment. And right now... there was none of that. No hint of danger, other than her general jumpiness from being alone in the darkness ( ... )

"Uh... yeah!" Kurt called back, turning his back towards the voice and pulling the sheet tighter in front--to cover his legs. "Just waiting for someone, I'm fine!"
Pleasegoaway, pleasegoaway, Kurt thought, shoulders hunched. Logan where are you? He was freaking out so bad, he didn't even realize that he recognized the voice from somewhere that wasn't linked to a negative experience.

"Should you be waiting by yourself?" she finally asked, sounding just as puzzled as she felt, but with a little concern in there too. She moved a little closer, trying not to spook him any worse than he already seemed to be, but getting a little worried about why he was so scared. "Hey, are you okay? You're not, like, hurt or something, are you?"

"No, I-I'm not hurt, I'm fine!" Kurt insisted. "And the guy I'm waiting for should be here, soon. S-so you can you know, leave me alone...!"
Why, why couldn't whoever was behind him be a normal human being and just leave everybody they didn't care about alone? If this had been Bayville or New York, they would've just kept right on walking. But this person actually sounded concerned, which only made Kurt even more nervous. Concern usually meant that they'd keep at it until he turned around and scared the heck out of them. Of all the people he could scare, he hated scaring the nice ones the most. They didn't deserve to be scared.

Wait. Didn't that voice sound kind of familiar? Minako paused, trying to decide how or why, then blinked and allowed the flashlight's beam to lower directly to the floor in front of herself. "...Kurt? Is that you?"
Now the conversation earlier was coming back to her, the completely hypothetical what-if-I discussion, and she was starting to wonder just what he'd been trying to say. Did he really mean, actual blue fur? Or something else? Why else was he hiding under that sheet like a leper?

Curiosity was getting the best of him--and whoever it was knew who he was, so the jig was up, really. His identity had been guessed, probably by his voice. But who had guessed who he was?
"Y-yeah...?" Kurt pulled the sheet up over his nose so only his eyes were visible and turned around. He could see who it was perfectly, thanks to his nightvision. His hands dropped down to chest-level, relief softening his posture and tense stance.
"Minako...!" he breathed, shoulders sagging. "Thank God..." he muttered, feeling his heartbeat slow down again. Minako had at least been introduced to this possibility, unlike Kurt's new roommate. And she was a good person, she wasn't going to start hitting him with... whatever that was she was carrying.

If that worked she'd have to give it a try herself, even if it would make her look absolutely ridiculous. But she somehow suspected it wasn't the reason, so she was still puzzled. "Who're you waiting for, anyway? It's like school after hours in here or something. Is it usually this empty?"

It was a different look, yeah. But she could still see the boy she'd met that morning in it, and somehow it... well, suited him. Blue was kind of his color, as she'd offhandedly suggested, and nothing had changed about his eyes but the color. Maybe if she hadn't met him before she would've been a bit startled, but there wasn't a bit of hostile intent about him. Maybe if Artemis had been a little harier in his humanoid form he would've looked kind of like this? Or Diana, maybe ( ... )

Though why this mysterious Logan was taking so long, she didn't know. She could hear the sounds of people all around them, as groups met up and moved on from what appeared to be a popular spot for it, but their corner stayed pretty quiet. Maybe he was looking in the wrong spot? Did he know to look for someone who'd mummified himself with a bedsheet?
She reached out to ruffle Kurt's hair (again, not bothering to ask permission first since she was pretty sure he wouldn't give it) and grinned. "You know, my partner back home has fur most of the time. Though his is white, not blue." It couldn't hurt to talk about Artemis, could it? He wasn't here, after all, and his tendency to blurt things out in public always jeopardized his ( ... )

Of course past that, he didn't know what to say. Talking with Amanda had been easy--they were friends, after all. Minako still was on the edge of acquaintance-slash-friend, so he didn't know what he could say that wouldn't sound stupid.
Fortunately, Minako provided something to talk about while they waited (which, Kurt had to admit, was getting to be a bit of a wait...). He flailed and endured the hair ruffle, because he thought it would be rude to push her hand off. But he was a dude, guys didn't get their hair ruffled by girls their age!
"White fur?" Kurt asked, curious. "Is... your partner a mutant too?" The coincidence would be crazy, so Kurt didn't get his hopes up. Minako probably wasn't from a world with mutants in it but... white fur?

But Kurt seemed like a nice guy. He tolerated the hair-ruffling well, at least, which was a pretty good indication-- if he'd suddenly freaked out, well, it would've said something. She had to remind herself, though, that he wasn't Artemis and probably wouldn't take being petted quite so well, even if he hadn't obviously been kind of touchy about the whole fur thing.
"A mutant?" she asked, looking puzzled, as she moved to stand beside him. It didn't sound like a very polite kind of term to her, but maybe it was where he came from? Or not, if he was treated poorly for being one. "No, he's...."
And there she paused, considering. An alien from another planet would sound pretty crazy. ( ... )

"I'm euh... a mutant," Kurt explained. "I have a gene in my DNA that gives me abilities. And makes me look like this. But I'm a human, just like you."
He felt as though everyone who wasn't familiar with mutants and was going to be spending an extended amount of time with his fuzzy face needed this explanation. Somehow, Kurt found that he was comforted by the idea that his differences were caused by something natural instead of supernatural or unnatural. Maybe other people were too? Terry had taken the science in stride, and Kon hadn't much cared but he'd thought Kurt's furry side was cool right from the get-go. Which brought him to this roommate ( ... )
