Kirk went rummaging through his desk the moment Landel mentioned the "reward" in the drawer, but unless "Portal Ring" was some obtuse term for the metal circle which held the two keys which locked his drawer and the door to their room, there wasn't anything worth noting. By the time he'd been taken back to his room for dinner, the Doctor still hadn't gotten a reply from Donna about her room number and he hadn't seen her, either. It was less convenient to wait for her outside of the female block than to go straight to her room-not to mention he wouldn't know if he'd missed her before arriving-but he had little choice. He needed to talk to her... so he would go there, wait a few minutes for Donna, and then move on to meet with Brainiac 5 if she didn't show up.

Dinner had been quiet. He'd changed into his suit and coat afterwards, resting his hand for a moment over the pocket that still held his sonic screwdriver. He was glad to have it back.

After changing, it had been time to wait. He straightened, tense, when the announcement with which the doors would unlock came, wondering what Landel might say about what had happened last night. He hadn't expected to hear something about a 'reward', though he was immediately suspicious of what that would mean. An 'alien' object in the desk drawer...

He crossed to his desk, checking its drawer thoroughly, but found nothing. Based on what Landel had said, that must have meant Dean had it... He would have to ask the man about it later, to confirm... It sounded as though it could be useful in trying to get out of here, but the Doctor didn't trust it. He didn't trust Landel.

Picking up his torch and, after a moment's consideration, his radio, the Doctor turned and headed out the door, starting down the hall. It was time to find Donna.
