The moment the doors were unlocked, Fox had his katana in hand. The flashlight was stuffed into one pocket of the jacket, as was the tool kit he'd found the previous night. So much to accomplish this night, but he wasn't concerned

Naminé hoped that this was the right block. She was navigating purely on a whim and on the little knowledge she had of Landels. Long, identical hallways did not normally bother her, as she was quite used to the ones at Castle Oblivion, but now they were running against the clock. it was important that they quickly found Xigbar.
They had to pass through another hallway, but they were lucky - they stumbled upon the right block and as they turned to the new hallway, Naminé saw the numbers that were getting closer and closer to M53. They were on the right track.
"It looks like we were right," Naminé smiled, relieved that they were able to locate Xigbar's room so quickly. "I just hope he's still inside and didn't move yet."
The seeming mazes of Landel's didn't bother Ashton too much either. The complexity of the hallways had nothing on the labyrinthine mines of Expel, the shafts that could collapse at a moment's notice and trap an unsuspecting unlucky swordsman.
He thought briefly about what Dias was doing at the moment. He knew the other swordsman didn't approve of his going to find Xigbar, but this was something Ashton had to do. The other guy didn't seem that bad in comments on the Bulletin Board, but .. he hadn't actually seen him since last night, after all.
Things suddenly became a lot more personal face to face, and Ashton drew his hand away from Naminé to cover his blushing face. He was still angry at the Nobody, and he wasn't sure how it would manifest if he was still in the room.
"Well, um, there's.. there's.. ah.. only one way to find out." Stuttering again. Ashton was obviously flustered as he knocked a few times on door M53.
Ah, and there was the knock. Xigbar had been silent after his room mate's words, letting Hakkai leave while the getting was still good. He wasn't going to run away from some little Neophyte, not now that his honor- which was a very nebulous term with him- was at stake.
What that did mean was that he was going to take out Luxord with extreme prejudice, and get the crazy Nobody to simmer down and realize his place.
That also meant that he was going to ambush whoever came through that door. He was a hunter, after all. "Come on in, door's open!" His fingers were already curled around his pokeball, a series of pens laid out in front of him for easy throwing.
Ashton shrugged down at Naminé before pulling the door open. And, just like he expected, there was Xigbar -
- throwing something straight at him -
- He'd have to dodge, but it looked like -
WHACK. A blunt pain seethed through his shoulder. The pokeball had been aimed right in between his eyes, and he'd fallen to the side in an attempt at dodging, but it had been a surprise, after all.
Was this really such a good idea after all?
"What the heck!?" Ashton shouted, a ladle in both hands just in case as he walked into the room. "What's the big idea?!"
The call from behind the door was good news to Naminé. Xigbar was still here and they could assemble quickly and leave. Of course, Naminé should have known that when it came to the Organization XIII, nothing ever went smoothly, rescue attempts for their own members included. She certainly did not expect Xigbar to attack Ashton with some... ball contraption.
She blinked and stared. What on earth...? Well, then again, Xigbar always had an odd way of greeting people. But this was important!
"Can... Can Xigbar explain later? We have to go save Axel," Naminé quietly reminded the two, hoping that they wouldn't waste time getting into a pointless argument.
The Nobody easily caught the pokeball when it returned to his hand, and he glanced from Ashton to Namine with a bit of confusion in his one eye. Well, that wasn't who he'd expected at all...
...and he honestly didn't think that Namine would have come at all. So he breezed right past Ashton, kneeling in front of the Memory Witch with that same baffled look on his face. Explain, him? Anathema. Heresy. Vile blasphemy. "First of all, back up about five steps? Why do we need to save Axel, from what, and why are you here?"
Obviously, Ashton's health could go fly a kite so far as Xigbar was concerned.
Ashton clutched at the reddening skin on his shoulder, quite tempted to smack Xigbar right back on the back of the head with his ladle as he knelt next to his blonde companion, but decided it'd be a better idea not to get in a fight, not when Axel was in so much danger.
This would bruise over, like it or not. The eyepatched guy had pretty good depth perception, given he only had one eye.
"I told you I'd be here - you should probably have expected me!" Ashton snapped. "Except we've got to get going, and fast - they took Axel for their experiments. I'm pretty sure I know where he's being held.."
Naminé did not expect Xigbar to ignore Ashton outright. Wasn't he expecting them? She guessed either the Freeshooter forgot or he was expecting someone else, and Naminé had an idea of who. But they would have to deal with that later. For once, Naminé hoped that she did not run into Luxord tonight.
"It is as Ashton said. He said that we should get you first, though, because you could possibly help us, and ... I think Ashton also mentioned Luxord wanting to kill you?" It was the best answer Naminé could give for some of Xigbar's questions, anyway.
"I just want to help Axel. Please, if you can help us, then let's hurry!"
"Yep, X's flipped his lid and now he wants me in bite-sized portions. But I'd rather not be skinned by a spade, so excuse me for taking some precautions. Heck," here he shot his words over his shoulder at Ashton, wagging his finger chidingly, "you knew that I was expecting someone to do me in, so you should have called or something. I don't bean people without a good reason."
With a sigh, he rolled his eye and stood up, putting the pokeball in his pocket. He could draw it out in a moment if he needed it, after all. "Huh, they must really have it out for the Organization; that's twice in a row one of us has been dragged into their Finkelstein labs. But hey, we've patched things up, so let's go be knights in..."
A pause, as he glanced from Namine to Ashton, and he amended, "Let's just save him. It'll keep me from dealing with X anyway."
[Sorry for all the edits. :| My mind doesn't want to proofread correctly today.]
Ashton turned his head to see a guy leaving from four doors down and skedaddling down the hallway. Must be the dark-haired guy Axel was talking about. He thought about calling for the guy to stop, but he was pretty much sprinting, and long-gone by the time Ashton could do anything about it. Too late to deliver messages.
He sighed, biting his lip and eyeing Xigbar like a kicked puppy might. Yeah, great way to thank someone who was trying to do a good deed and get your butt out of the room and away from someone who was set on murder. It struck Ashton then that he still hadn't delivered Luxord's message, but that could wait. As good of a little messenger boy as he was, a stupid message about Time didn't seem like such a pressing matter now. Axel was in danger, and Ashton had just promised he'd look out for him
( ... )
Naminé could have hugged Xigbar. He was actually cooperating (to put the term loosely) for once! But they could celebrate after they saved Axel.
She took Ashton's hand, squeezing it in the hopes of fostering some confidence. She knew she could trust Ashton to save Axel. They were all in this together now.
"We're heading to the second floor," Naminé confirmed, just in case Xigbar was wondering exactly where they were going.
Normally Xigbar wouldn't have bothered accepting orders from Ashton of all people, but he had Namine by the hand and II fought off the 'Touch the Memory Witch and suffer a painful and horrifying death' instinct which infected the Organization and was protective, so he could deal. Left his hands free, anyway. He'd need that for his weapons, so...
"One sec." He scooped up his pens, making sure that they were all ready to go, before following the two of them out. Second floor, saving Axel, working with a guy that he really wanted to kiss again, running from Luxord?
Man, things were screwy in the Institute. He almost wished he could get out just to be away from all the insanity.
