Day 50: Arts & Crafts Room (4th Shift)

Jun 27, 2010 20:56

It barely felt like she'd been outside for any time at all when the intercom sounded and the nurse came to fetch her. "Can't I stay a little longer?" she asked, but the woman only clicked her tongue and frowned, reaching to feel her forehead as though testing for a fever. "The weather simply isn't good enough, Natalie dear," the nurse said, once ( Read more... )

Did the next fold go diagonally or horizontally? Nunnally frowned at the sheet of paper, the tip of her tongue sticking out as she tried to remember the instructions she'd followed before. One fold didn't look quite right so she tried another, then hesitated at the sound of approaching footsteps. "Good afternoon, Brother," she replied with a smile dawning as she looked up at him.

After a moment's consideration she pushed away the half-finished figure and reached for a new sheet of paper. Maybe if she started over she could figure it out? "They said that you had a visitor?" It was half a statement and half a question, asked out of hope that maybe... well, Suzaku was supposed to have been "released," wasn't he? So that meant he was still here somewhere. Though if Suzaku had visited and she hadn't been able to see him, she would have been disappointed.

Concern could not be helped, given the circumstances. One who had assisted her acting strangely could not be ignored. She would be more watchful of Nataku. Even if he was something called a god, he was still a child, even so.

Like another she had met. Renamon returned to the arts and crafts room after checking the bulletin board again--the same reason as before. She had not seen Jiraiya today, and still he did not appear. The Digimon had half a mind to look elsewhere when she noticed a small girl in discussion with another. Normally, she would not think to bother, but she only wanted to confirm the girl's well-being. She approached slowly, stopping a few feet away to incline her head in a gentle bow. "Excuse me," she interrupted, before offering a slight smile to Nunnally. "I was only checking to see if you were well."

Not very interesting? Likely not Suzaku, then, unless he was lying. Which... Nunnally hoped he wasn't. But who else would they have brought to visit? It only made her even more curious, but she decided to wait and see if he volunteered more information on his own; if not she could always ask later. For now she simply focused on her paper, making each fold with careful, neat precision ( ... )

The lingering gaze of the girl was noted, and for that, Renamon attempted to smile more successfully. She had no want for the girl to have misguided guilt. "It was nothing. I'm glad I was able to assist you in some way." The smile given became more real. "And I'll be fine, I assure you."

As much as what she was told, by any chance. The one Nunnnally had been talking to was watching her, a look not unfamiliar. It echoed previous ones of her own, when she had guarded Rika. Renamon gave the slightest of nods to the boy. Hm. She had the want to ask the girl about the end situation last night, but she wasn't sure if she would want to speak of it. And the Digimon was still intruding. She would leave soon. "Did everything end well?"

Nunnally might have insisted that she was really fine, that the nurse had given her a jacket and she hadn't been cold at all-- even if she had been feeling as though she were coming down with a cold from it, though, she probably would have said otherwise rather than make anyone worry for no reason. And Lelouch knew that well enough, and... well, it was somehow nice to have him fussing over her again. It was something that she'd never thought she would miss in particular, but it was one way that he showed how much she meant to him.

It was also a far more preferable way of doing so than others he had tried, as well, but that was a train of thought Nunnally didn't wish to pursue for the moment. That was in the past (or possibly future), and he'd already promised to try to change it ( ... )

Something about Nunnally reminded Renamon of Orihime suddenly. The impression wasn't something altogether wanted, and the Digimon pushed it to the back of her mind. The reaction after the past few days, and on today... She ignored it, focusing on the words instead. The girl's brother. That explained the careful look. She spoke automatically at both's words, even as her mind began to place the second. "Just Renamon ( ... )

How odd a coincidence, then, that the woman who had helped her was one of the (apparently many) Lelouch communicated with on the bulletin. Fortunate, perhaps, since it seemed they hadn't managed to meet in person as yet, though they had meant to. It would have been preferable for them to do so under better circumstances, of course, but... Nunnally pushed away that line of thought and simply smiled up at Renamon.

"You did all that could be done, and for someone you'd never met before. If all were so willing then the world would be a far better place today," she observed. If even just those trapped here felt the same it would be an improvement, but it seemed some would even be willing to use a situation such as this only to their own advantage rather than helping others. It saddened her to think so-- even if she could do little herself, she was willing to cooperate and at least do what she was able to do.

She supposed, from the girl's point of view, it had been something that Renamon wasn't obligated to do. Even so, it remained what it was. What Nunnally said was true, even if it wasn't realistic in most worlds. Again, the Digimon nodded. "At the very least, we may have worked through some of the things keeping us here ( ... )

"Oh! If you two needed to talk, I don't mind. It seems difficult enough for people to find time to speak here." Nunnally glanced from one to the other, her smile widening slightly as she caught her brother's look. He was already spending so much time with her lately when he had things to accomplish, and while she appreciated his concern she certainly didn't want to interfere with what had to be done.

As though to illustrate the point she glanced down at her half-finished origami figure and turned it over, considering the next fold to make. It wasn't as though she had nothing to do while they spoke, after all, even if she didn't have anything in particular to contribute to the conversation. Would it be more of what Lelouch had discussed with Mr. Gavin earlier? Or something else? The G.A.M.B.I.T. initiative seemed to be a more recent thing, from what she understood of it, and she was curious about what else her brother was planning.

She appreciated the offer from both. With a nod, she sat across from them carefully, folding her hands. "Thank you both."

Though there was much and many to be discussed; least of all, she thought, the strange circumstances of the night prior. But she would keep to professionalism, especially here. "There's a few things I've researched," she offered. "The fact and patterns of multiple worlds, functions and limitations of the institute, and how and why people disappear, and perhaps return. I don't have as much as one would like, but whatever you would like details one, I'd be glad to share."
