Nightshift 49: Main Hallway 1-East

Most people would have been a little wary, or at least curious as to why this part of the hallway seemed to be completely abandoned. However, Rolo was almost pleased by the quiet and stillness, even though he had a feeling it meant something was wrong. So, it wasn't something to be happy about, he guessed, but ( Read more... )

Spike wasn't the only one who was pleased by the empty halls. The last thing Sync needed was to deal with dead weight throwing themselves about and getting in their way, especially when the brunet was going through this part of the institute. Usually all the good stuff was either on the second floor or through the Sun Room, so he'd be mildly annoyed if the other teen led them to a completely useless room. Talk about wasting their time!

"About time," The God-General answered, gracing the brunet with a sly grin when the latter looked over his shoulder at them.

"Almost there" brought no change in Ange's expression nor did the absence of patrons in the hallway. Both were non-factors to the third of the party, who honestly didn't have a care at this point. So long as everyone played nicely and kept to their task (which she still hadn't a clue about), she would just tag along.

When the green-haired male spoke, Ange simply nodded. She wasn't agreeing to his statement but rather, acknowledging Rolo's words.

From where he was, Rolo could finally see the hallway they were supposed to go to. What did his brother say? It was... Lelouch didn't tell him exactly which hallway to take, now that he thought about it. Of course, it was probably because he didn't think he had to. It was the first hallway, of course. Right. Yes.

"Here," Rolo was sure of it, so sure that he was even willing to point it out as he turned into the first hallway they ran into. Now all he had to do was search each room and make a report on what each room held, and any useful information he could find about the doctors. Simple enough.

It had happened -- and there was no way around it (the metallic weight in the air that he'd been too much of a fool child to identify, that imprint of blood across the sole of his bare foot, Itachi -- Itachi's lies). How did this kid want Sasuke to react? It had needed that numbness to be spoken at all, familiar and secure and Sasuke couldn't remember if he'd had any reaction that was different after waking up.

The blur of the first month and the vague recollection of his classmates' confusion, children who hadn't really known. There had been concerned nurses, there had been a bandaged arm (he remembered that, the cause of that, blackness immediately after and before and a fade on the edges), there was the sense of sinking into deep water with the promise of vengeance seeping out with his depleting breath. But it melted together at the edges.

It needed that distance for Sasuke to make it make a chronological sense (Sasuke needed that distance), and it was a space familiar in its precariousness, the tension of its ( ... )

"I wouldn't talk about it like it was perfectly okay," Obito snapped back, his voice still fiery. "You sound like you're reading it from a book or something! Our entire family is dead!" The more Obito spoke, the more certain he became that acting as if this were nothing was a disgrace to the memory of the clan. Sure, a lot of them thought that stoicism was some supremely important quality, but that was a ninja thing, not an Uchiha thing. And ninja were supposed to be better at having emotions now.
