Night 49 - Pantry (Second Floor)

May 26, 2010 09:05

[from Waiting Room/Lobby 1]S.T. took one long step through the door and straight into a shelf directly at eye level. The impact made very little sound in and of itself. "Fuck." He stopped, and rubbed his face. "What the fuck?" The lingering dizziness could have been a result of hitting his head, except that it had happened before ( Read more... )

Guybrush winced visibly, having hardly time to recover from running straight into a shelf upon entering the room before both women started yelling at him. He shined his light around the room, confused on every end. What were they yelling about now? Huh, what was this shelf doing in the field? Why wasn't this the field? The field had two doors leading out to it, so why would they put what looked like a pantry at the end of the patient room hallways? Was the other door fake? Was he really just going crazy? Would he ever find out any of the answers to these questions? Or the Secret of Monkey Island™?

"I- I don't know what happened!" he said defensively, turning to face the ladies and stumbling over several boxes of crackers that had been knocked off the shelf, knocking himself into a pile of stray cans on the floor. "What kind of dummy puts a pantry at the end of a hallway nowhere near the cafeteria? What if they run out of cheese?"

He weaseled his way toward the door, only to find LeChuck blocking the way. Four people obviously weren't supposed to fit in a pantry. "Let's go back. There's a door at the end of the other hallway that I know leads to the field."

LeChuck just smiled as LeFlay slipped ahead of him, and swung his arms toward the door like a doorman. Even if he was trying not to provoke them, he could still be smug, and let everyone pass before following, practically shoving Guybrush out into what sounded like quite a storm.

Or not, as they found themselves in some kind of closet, or pantry. His shout of "Guybrush!" was preempted as both of the women beat him to it, having gotten a head start on realizing he'd lead them into a dead end.

"O' course it's this oaf's fault. Why wouldn't ya know what's right down the hall from yer bedroom? Come on, let's just go try the front door, like I was goin' to before you all showed up."

He turned in the cramped space, and found that as soon he was clear, it had closed itself. He opened it and stepped back out into the more spacious hallway.

...and, after a brief spinning sensation, back into the same pantry to run into Guybrush.

"What in Neptune's Naval?" He hadn't turned around, he was sure of that. There was some disorientation, yes, but he hadn't... bounced off of anything. He... he just...

...what in the name of Nor Treblig just happened?

Morgan let out a high grunt of frustration. Robbed of her sword, trapped in a poorly-planned pantry, and now Elaine was stealing her lines. Where had her life gone so wrong?

Elaine, Guybrush, LeChuck and the pile of cans were all between her and the door, and she didn't have room to get around them, so she was stuck waiting until LeChuck made a move to leave. In the dim light she could just barely make him out as he went out into the hall--and came right back in, sounding genuinely confused. "What?" she wanted to know.

Elaine raised a curious eyebrow as LeChuck stepped back into the room with that look of confusion on his face. Also blocked by Guybrush and the pile of crackers and cans strewn about, she had watched LeChuck exit the room, seen him step into the hall they had just been in - then the door had shut, but it hadn't been clear if it had been LeChuck closing it or not. Now he stood back inside, the door open and shut again. Strange. Wouldn't LeChuck have kept the door open if he were simply coming back inside for them? Wouldn't he have not closed the door in the first place after leaving? It was hard to confirm in the dark, but it definitely seemed to her as if the door was moving of its own accord. Then there was that disoriented feeling clear on LeChuck's face, the same as the one she had felt upon entering. Hmmm.

She was starting to get an inkling of what was going on, but wasn't positive about the details yet. All she could say for sure at this point was that something strange was happening with the doors. She wouldn't know more until they tried their luck at least one more time.

Elaine pushed past the two men, not content to just sit and wait for them to make the next move. "No, this is definitely not Guybrush's fault, and I think I can prove it. Follow me, and keep that door open until everyone's gone through," she said over her shoulder, pushing the door open again.
