Day 23: Game Room, Evening Shift.

Apr 14, 2007 10:48

Fayt had been doing.. something. For some time, apparently, as he came in during the children shower scenes. Being over the age (yes, despite how he looked), he wasn’t sent there, meaning he had three options. Music Room. Game Room, and Sun Room ( Read more... )

Naoe wasn't in the mood to play games, his entire life was a game, but spending another shift in his room didn't sound appealing either. He wandered into the game room and took a seat away from the others that were already in the room.

He was silent, lost in his own thoughts. He didn't really see or hear anything around him. It made him vulnerable, but he didn't care at that moment.

Haku smiled and bowed to his nurse, feeling better for the wash and for the plait his hair was now in. The bandages on his face were less and he was in a much better mood.

Of course, he could have done without the ribbon that had been used to tie his hair back, but the nurse had insisted it looked wonderful and wouldn't take 'no thank you' for an answer.

She also wouldn't allow him to go to the music room or sun room or even his room, instead, she said, a growing boy like himself should have some fun. Play some games or something.

Which is how he wound up here, in the Game Room, blinking around at the people here. He hoped he'd get to return to his room soon. Finding a quiet spot to sit, he smiled politely at the man sitting there and bowed his head, before sitting down himself. He reached up to finger the ribbon.

Naoe looked up when there was movement close by. He frowned slightly at the boy that sat down. He may have been a very effeminate boy, but Naoe could tell the genders apart. There were wounds on his face as well.

In all of his time here, Naoe had yet to encounter a 'monster' and he couldn't help but wonder...

"Do you mind if I ask how your face was hurt?" he asked, being rude in that it was such a direct question but polite in tone of voice.

Haku smiled and reached up to touch his face. "I suppose that depends on who you ask." He smiled and laughed softly. "According to the staff here," he glanced over at the nurses keeping an eye on everyone. "I'm terribly ill and did this to myself."

He shrugged. "I, however, think that monsters dressed as they are, with sharp blades for fingers tried very hard to blind me and missed." His smile never wavered. "It happened on my first night here."

Naoe watched the boy. Oh, it was refreshing to find fake politeness. His own smile was as empty as the boys and as persistent. It was a shame he couldn't bring himself to bring it now. His mind was still reeling from the conversation he had had during lunch.

"That's horrible," he said. "I was beginning to doubt that there were such things here. I've heard of them but I've been here through a handful of nights and have yet to encounter any of them. Perhaps this will be the night?"

There it was, the tugging at his lips. He managed to smile at the boy, as if he were sharing a quiet joke. Anyone who looked at them would have thought they were talking about pleasant things, not the horrors that took over the hospital at night.

"Hmm..." Haku tilted his head and pretended to think, still smiling softly. "Well, I would be careful of what I wished for. They are all quite dangerous." He glanced again at a nurse.

"I would take someone with me while I roamed the halls, if I were you," he went on. "Not that I don't think you can't take care of yourself. No." He beamed. "But sometimes two sets of eyes are much better than half of one. Oh!" He seemed to have recalled something, though it was mostly for show. "Weapons. Since these things are armed, it's only fair that we be as well, right?" Haku laughed softly as though sharing a private joke.

Naoe shook his head. "If I found weapons I doubt I would keep them." He kept his smile as he said it. "I would give them to someone else."

Takaya was the type who would feel better if he had a weapon in his hands.

Haku blinked and then smiled. "To anyone in particular? Or do you feel better with hand-to-hand combat," he asked. He was curious. He knew that any weapons he found would be given to his Master right away, even if he, himself, was lacking one.

"Someone in particular," he said softly. "Do you have someone you would do that for?"

He was curious as well.

Haku brought up a hand and laughed softly. The gesture was remarkably feminine, but it was unclear if he'd done that on purpose or if it was simply his way.

"I do. I would give that person anything and everything I have. They are very important to me."

Naoe nodded and considered the boy. He was still smiling, but there was something more genuine about it. "Yours hasn't turned into hate as well as it?"

There were very few people who could understand what it was like to hate and love someone with all of your being. This boy didn't seem like one of them. He wasn't what he showed people, but he also wasn't entirely jaded.

Haku shook his head. "Of course not. I owe this person far too much to hate them." He closed his eyes for a moment. "And they cannot hate me." He opened his eyes, smile more honest and warm. "After all... who can hate an object?"

"An object?" Naoe asked, his smile relaxed slightly. "I wonder if that is better than being a pet. An object isn't alive is it?"

Haku shrugged. "Who knows if it's better," he said. "An object may not be alive, and it cannot feel." Unless it was falwed, as Haku was. Feelings weere not permitted to a true shinobi. "But it can also not show any affection, or caring. Pain, anger, hate, even love. They are all things denied to an object. But a pet..." He sighed.

"A pet can show those things and recive them in kind. I think that perhaps a pet has the better life... sometimes."

Naoe considered the boy for a long moment. "That is a good point. The problem is that the pet can also lash out. After so long of being hurt or ignored the pet learns how to bite back, even when it shouldn't." He sighed and dropped the fake smile. "Most people would think that it is sad that you are so young and don't consider yourself a person." Naoe didn't share if he agreed with them or not.

Haku thought about that. "At the same time," he said. "A weapon, when handled poorly, can be a danger to it's owner."

He had to laugh softly at that though. "I'm not as young as I seem," he pointed out. "And I'm happy with my life. I'm happy to be needed, even if it's only as an object." He lowered his gaze. "If I weren't happy, I can see how I could come to hate even my Master."
