Night 49: Recreational Field

May 22, 2010 02:31

[From here.]It was cold and rainy out on the soccer field, but Remy didn't mind; the water on his face and the sharp chill caused the wave of mild dizziness and confusion that hit him to vanish as if it had never been there. Weird. Maybe he was hungry again already ( Read more... )

The Scarecrow shook his head a few times as he stepped outside, thinking he felt a little strange, or maybe it was the outside that was strange- it seemed to move on its own for a moment before settling in one spot. He pushed the thought from his mind- it was probably just the clever little thing acting up, or perhaps his human body didn't enjoy the rain as much as he did ( ... )

It looked like luck was not on their side tonight.

"Son of a bitch," he griped as he shoved his forehead into the hand that was holding onto his pillowcase. For a moment, all he could do was stand there and let the rain pelt down on him. He just wanted to find a dry, safe place where they could take a breather at this point, since it was clear they weren't going to be reaching the pharmacy or the file room by chance. Not when they'd ended up in two fridges, zombie territory, outside in the rain, and in the company of monsters gone wrong thus far.

"Let's just get back inside," he urged, though he realized that they could just be warped to an outside area again. Then again, the courtyard and this field were the only ones that he knew of, so they probably didn't need to worry too much about that. The point was, he wasn't climbing the wall for no reason again.

Crap.

Seriously, was some place dry too much to ask? Apparently. The rain hadn't let up in the last five minutes and Sam couldn't get any more soaked than he already had since the last time he was out here, but it was still not nice to be pelted with freezing water.

At this rate, between the fridges and the rain, they were both gonna catch pneumonia before the night was up.

"Yeah, I'm with you."

Sam sure as hell wasn't gonna climb the wall again just to get thrown to another place. And he had no desire to explore the field. He'd been there. There and in the shed where his brother had nearly killed him and yeah, no, he was all for going back inside.

He pushed open the door behind them and stepped through without wasting a second.

Wally walked through the door and found himself... outside? That couldn't be right, hadn't they been on the second floor? But this looked like the recreation field... and it was pouring rain as well.

"Huh?" he said, looking around in obvious confusion and blinking to clear his head of the dizzy feeling threatening to overwhelm him. "How did we get out here? This can't be right. I mean, we were on the second floor, right?" He glanced back at the other guy, doing his best to shield his face from the pelting rain as he did so.

When Scar followed his newfound companion through the doorway, he experienced a sudden sense of dizzyness. That on itself may have been odd, but more surprising was the sudden rain showering down on them. He let out a surprised gasp, not having expected it. Instead of what should've been the rather dull interior of the institute, he found himself...outside?

The former lion looked around, as equally confused as the man with him. They were on the recreational field, were they not? But how was that possible? They had been on the second floor!

It took him a moment to regain his composure before he responded. "Your guess is as good as mine. As far as I am aware, fields do not suddenly move to higher levels."

The other guy looked about as surprised by being here as Wally was, so obviously they hadn't brought this in before and he'd just missed a memo or something. 'Proceed with caution, locations may change at random'. If he'd been at home, he'd have wondered if someone had gotten a little too trigger happy with the Justice League's teleportation system, but that felt different.

"I think something or someone's messing around with us," he said, looking around as much of the field as he could in the rain. "There's no way we could have gotten here on our own."

But it wasn't like there was really much he could say other than that, and it looked like the two of them could do with getting out of the rain. "Which way did you want to go from here?"

Oh, Scar had a guess who was behind it. "Perhaps it is the dear head doctor's sense of humor, again," he muttered. Lovely, just what he needed, truly.

At the very least, Landel made an excellent scapegoat.

As for where they were going to head next, the former lion didn't quite intend to cross the field for no particular reason. "Let us head back inside," he answered, opening the door that had already closed behind him.

Brainiac 5 made a surprised noise as he suddenly found himself outside and getting exceedingly wet in the rain. He hadn't expected them to wind up in the kitchen like the map would have suggested, but he hadn't expected to be outside either.

"Do we head back inside or try and see if the outside areas are affected?" he asked over his shoulder.

Crap. S.T. stuffed the map in his armpit. Not that they'd figured out much -- or anything -- but they might be able to in the morning. Getting people to compare notes at the Institute was like dragging more than monosyllables out of researchers with a paper in the pipeline. Industry flacks were downright verbose by comparison.

"Do you think there's a difference?" He pulled open the door and stepped through.

... If there was a plus side to this at all, it was the fact that this time, the initial wave of dizziness was much shorter lived, if only because of the sudden shock to his system. Battler once again tried to be more aware as he passed through the door, but as the previous times, everything changed before he could process it. What he was left with... well, he couldn't exactly call this desirable. It may not have pierced into the skin and hurt less badly than the rains of the typhoon, but it was still freezing cold and enough to leave them all soaked almost immediately. .. The dizziness may have been gone, but that did little to improve his mood.

"Oh, come on! Seriously...?!" Whoever perpetrated this must have been having a pretty good laugh right now. It was probably that Landel bastard, right? That was where he found himself shifting the blame, even if there wasn't any real proof behind the assumption.

Battler hadn't deserved the hit, but von Karmas were not in the practice of apologizing or making their mistakes known. Even if the man ended up hating her, she would go to her grave without uttering a word of apology. Both men had a point though. She was letting her emotions get the better of her. Her emotions and the nausea both were forcing her to abandon her logic and react harshly to any stimuli which made for bad investigations. When Battler warned her that he'd split if she tried that again and gave her that subtly darker look, the prosecutor only huffed and looked away.

She didn't need people. Even if he was convenient and making good points, well, she didn't need him. He was just convenient and made a good...something. She wasn't sure what. She would make one and only one concession though. "You are not disliked, Ushiromiya Battler. If I disliked you, you would be unconscious." Like Phoenix Wright ( ... )
