Nightshift 49: Doctor's Office 3 [Dr. Kisugi]

[From here]"Fierfek," 622 cursed softly as he stepped through the door, sighing. There wasn't any reason to try and hold the door to head back, it wouldn't help them. Instead of a corridor, they'd just stepped through into one of the doctor's offices. It was better than being dropped right into a crowd of hostiles, that was for sure, but still, it ( Read more... )

"It's more than just that." Mihai had indeed followed after Reeve, but paused just beyond the closed door--that he didn't remember closing, actually. Yet as he took in their surroundings, he focused more on the idea that they weren't where they should be at all, and not in the usual maybe I should have made a left back there sense. "This is completely wrong."

Mihai moved over to the desk, which he recognized despite the state of the office. The doctor had more than one unsatisfied customer from the looks of things. "This office shouldn't be here. I was in this same room last night with a friend, and I know we walked farther to get here."

Fantastic. Now even the architecture was trying to undermine the credibility of Mihai's sanity. Reeve was going to think him senile before his time, and the night had barely begun.

"I don't know what city it is. Maybe someplace German, since that's what everyone's been speaking." Beyond that, however, Mihai didn't have a clue. He looked around the scattered mess again, then let out a soft sigh. "I can already tell you you won't find much of use here. Even without someone else having torn the place apart, the supplies were lacking."

"I've never heard of that language," he confessed with obvious disappointment. "It's lucky that I ran into someone I can communicate with." It was looking less and less likely that he had ended up here by accident, or by the intervention of friends. But still, he could think of no reason why someone would go through all the trouble to hide him away in some distant hospital. He had no injuries, no illness, and so would have had to have been intentionally kept unconscious through the transport, which was unnerving. It was a lot of hassle for some executive, regardless of his illegal activities.

He inspected a second book, all perfectly compresensible, although he had expected to see an example of German. All of the books, each of their covers, all familiar. Reeve looked over at his guide across the room, and felt the doubt start to take root. Although Mihai seemed well-meaning, and Reeve believed that he was being as honest in his own mind, his information just wasn't accurate. There was no telling where they really were, or what the layout of this facility was. Reeve couldn't predict it based on architectural standards either. Whoever put it together had not cared much for intuitive design.

"Well, it doesn't matter." His dismissal was slightly uncomfortable, he knew, but it was true enough. If this was how things were, then there was no point in wishing they were different. Decisively, he reached for the door again. "Let's go around. I passed a hallway leading deeper in earlier."
