Nightshift 49: West Wing, Hall 2-A

May 18, 2010 16:13

[From here]The kitchen was another totally valid target. Last time, that spider had kept him from getting to keep those cookies (nevermind he had thrown them at her). He just felt like going there first tonight. In no way was he avoiding dealing with Neku. He could go kick that nanogram's face in any day of the week. He just had better things to do ( Read more... )

Other than a couple of guys further in, no one else had come down this way. There were, however, a few of doors that they could try.

"What are those 'sleep studies' you mentioned?" he asked Ronixis as he headed down the hall. He hadn't heard anything about them; it sounded boring with a name like that, but information was information.

He stopped by the first door he came to, testing the handle. Locked.

One direction seemed as good as another at the moment since they didn't really have any set plan. Plenty of options though. Hopefully things wouldn't be as confused as they had been last time he'd been up here. He paused when Gilbert asked about the sleep-studies. "From what I gather, they're experiments that the doctors here conduct on patients. I haven't heard many details but well, it doesn't sound good for anyone." Torture, pure and simple as far as he was concerned.

"Locked?" he asked when Gilbert tried the door to no avail. Ronixis continued along the hallway, trying to next door. "Hey, this one seems open." They might as well check the one that was open first before trying to break the other one down. He pushed the door open and stepped through...

Two men were up ahead of them; Indy kept moving past them and continued straight on. "That door at the end of the hall," he said to Dent.

While Harvey seriously doubted that the kitchen was going to hold anything of interest for him, the fact stood that he hadn't been there (not to the one on the second floor, at least), and so this would at least count as exploring new territory. It meant that the night wouldn't be a total waste, even if he ultimately decided not to throw his lot in with Jones on the basement thing ( ... )

The hallway was quiet, but that was no guarantee that they hadn't been spotted.  S.T. kept his mouth shut and his feet moving.  If the kid thought it was safe to chit-chat, he wasn't going to stop him, but he didn't need inane conversation to keep the darkness at bay.  The dark was almost warm.  Comforting.  A familiar paranoia rather than a new terror.

Brainiac 5 wasn't sure what reaction he'd really expected from the other patient - it wasn't as though Sangamon really knew him that well, so logically he could have been told to take care of things on his own just as easily as be offered help - but he was pleasantly surprised when the older man led the way down another hallway and towards a door. The Coluan hadn't been onto the second floor often enough to get much of an idea about the layout of the area, unfortunately, so he wasn't sure what to expect behind the door. But so long as it was somewhere they could take a moment to talk and he could explain a little further without worrying about Grell appearing behind him, he'd be happy.

Slipping past Sangamon, he pushed open the door and quickly ducked through.

Kaworu stopped at the first door. The door he could not open. He had realized he was less than he had been once. It was unnatural, but a reality, and so he did not give thoughts on it much time. Often, he would forget.

"I met a man who believed that he knew me," Kaworu spoke aloud. The dark hallway swallowed the sound of his voice. "He's gone now."

Shinji hurried after Kaworu, although he stopped to wait for the others. He was torn. On the one hand, Kaworu had shown him the most affection he had ever received from anybody, but weren't the others his friends as well? He hesitated, catching a few of Kaworu's words.

"Who's gone...?"

Asuka watched Kaworu walk off, mouth agape. "Where does he think he's going?" Rei was the only one still behind her so the redhead gave her a look, waving her hand at this inexcusable mutiny. "Uggh..." With a throaty growl, Asuka stormed off to catch up with them, fists clenched at her side while she wore a sour expression. Turning left into the second corridor, the eva pilot almost ran into Shinji, having not assumed they would just stopped right at the mouth of the new hallway.

"What's gone...?" Not that she cared, but Asuka wasn't going to let Kaworu keep secrets from her, especially when Shinji was involved in them. "Why are you just staring at the door? Move over if you're not going to be productive..." She shooed Kaworu to the left while she handled this dilemma. Her hand grabbed the doorknob and pulled, then pushed. Her grip tightened and she tried again, pushing and pulling frantically.

Kaworu watched as Asuka strained at the door. He was near Shinji again, this time with awareness. He had moved to his side once Asuka had taken his place. It gave him space and ground to separate his thoughts, to remove one moment from the other. Asuka's voice was not the only one that he heard, although the one that layered behind hers spoke words he could not make out exactly, implications of the holes in his memory ( ... )

She walked along, just enough that she wasn't out of sight of the other two, scanning the surroundings carefully. "Clear up here!" she called back once she'd made sure that nothing was immediately after them. "So, which door do we want to try?" There were a few there to choose from.

Taura had been telling the truth when she'd said she'd never been down this hall, but she did have a map in her room. And a near-eidetic memory for maps -- that was one of the easier additions House Bharaputra had made to their soldiers. The first door led to a medical reference library. Maybe there'd would be notes on how -- and why -- they'd transplanted her.

She tried the handle. Locked. Well, that was easily enough fixed. "Stand back," she murmured, and then kicked, hard, just beside the handle. In he rightful body the kick might have blown both latch and hinges simultaneously; instead, it just took out the latch. Still, it slammed open hard enough that a second, satisfying thud was heard as it swung and hit the wall. Taura grinned, white teeth flashing in the dark, and stepped in.
