Vergil jumped just a bit in his skin at having once again been approached from behind without him noticing. Vergil turned his head to see the familiar face of Fox. He made a mental note to be especially wary of being snuck up on by him.
"Ever since I was born." Vergil said, just now taking note of Fox's metallic hair "I didn't notice yours until just now, though. The dark halls don't do much for clarity. It seems we're more alike than we thought."
Vergil turned his head back towards the shower head, and proceeded to scrub his hair quite thoroughly. It had been along time since he had showered. In fact, it had been along time since he wasn't in a suit of armor and possesed.
The weight of that thought then hit him harder. Mundus, fighting Dante, Nero Angelo. It all hit him like a ton of bricks. He hadn't thought of that since he had come here. He paused for a moment in his scrubbing as he let the weight of his memories settle in.
"So...what business brings you here?" Vergil said after the brief pause. He had hoped Fox didn't notice the stint in his speech. Vergil didn't want to have to bring that up quite yet.
It was always slightly amusing the way people jumped when he spoke. Fox knew he was always quiet when he moved around, and as such often approached without people noticing, but it was still amusing.
Fox was aware of something that appeared to occur to Vergil, and was mildly curious about what brought it on. Instead of asking, he turned his own attention to the hot water. It felt so good, it had been... it hadn't really been years, had it?
Perhaps it had been, and Fox couldn't help but let out a short, bitter laugh that he quickly cut off at Vergil's question. "Ah, just thought I'd come see you, make sure everything was alright after last night."
"Your concern is unnecessary. I woke up in my bed confused, but unharmed." Vergil let the water fall on him and enjoyed the warm feel of it "I don't remember anything that could've been a danger to me anyway. It was just us in the janitor's closet, as far as I can recall."
Vergil wondered if something had happened to Fox that Vergil didn't catch or didn't remember that may have sparked the concern. If that was the case, Vergil might have to be more wary of the silver haired swordsman than he thought.
"I occasionally..." Fox considered the best way to word what he wanted to say before shrugging.
"There are occasions when I lose parts of my memory, I thought I might have experienced that last night. Usually, the time I don't remember was spent in a fight. I woke up this morning with the feeling that I had just come out of one of those... attacks." For some reason, Fox felt that Vergil would be safe to tell more of the story.
"I was killed in battle, several years ago. Only I didn't quite manage to die, I was still trapped in my body, a shadow of what I use to be. Since that point, there have been times when I've started fighting and have been unable to stop myself. Generally, I can tell when they're about to happen, and so far I've always managed to get away from anyone I'm around, or to make sure the only people around are those I want to kill." Snake would be running around with someone else, so Fox wouldn't have Snake to count on to snap him out of it.
"Is that so? Well, I'll be sure to know what to look out for then should that happen." If anything, Vergil was glad for the warning. That was a lot more than he usually got in this place. He'd just have to make sure to look out next time Fox started acting funny. Simply one more reason he kept a knife on him.
Still, what he had said was interesting.
"I know how it feels. There was once a time where I once should have died." Vergil laughed at the irony of it "I had even made it all the way to hell. And just when my lfie should've been brought to it's conclusion, I found myself now a puppet. My will no longer my own. I was forced to fight."
It felt intersting reflecting on these things that may have only been the other day, and how far off they felt. And what was that Vergil felt? Was this mighty warrior feeling remorse for his actions? Vergil cast those feelings aside for now, they would serve him no good here. His mind was not his own then.
"Anyway," he said quickly changing the topic of conversation "Have you talked with Snake about using our room for preparing for tonight? I might have just found another purpose for it."
Fox listened quietly, it sounded similar to what he had gone through, different, since Fox had never actually been used as a puppet, though he'd lost himself inside the exoskeleton.
"Snake has plans, I'm going to be meeting up with one of his friends in a different room in the first m-block. After that I want to go further down the hallway we were in last night, the one that had the janitors closet... and what purpose did you come up with?"
"It seems that the man on the radio and the Head Doctor once had a feud over a woman. Someone is looking to try and discover a way to find her and reach out to her, with the intent of bettering our cause of escape. I told him I'd try to raise people to back the movement, and I wanted to know if I could use our room as a meeting place, but if Snake will be gone anyway, we can just use it then." Vergil wondered how silly these plans of escape must sound to Fox, who had been here for heaven knew how long. Still, in Vergil's mind, it was better than just aimlessly meandering and doing nothing.
"If you're interested, the plans to meet have yet to be set in stone. I have to speak with the man in person to work out the details of the gathering. I have to see a man named Ginji about it, but I'm quite certain your involvement with the project would be appreciated." Vergil looked up and let the water fall on his face, and enjoyed the feeling of it. Like it was just washing away his cares. He could just speak about his problem as if they were nothing. A good soul cleansing shower was just what Vergil needed, too.
Fox listened quietly, turning the information over his head and examining it carefully. It was an interesting idea, and Fox nodded slowly as he pieced that together with everything else he knew and suspected.
"Maybe... If I do show up for that, I'll be late, perhaps, since I'd need to go meet up with someone first and then go to your room... what room is it, by the way? I don't know where Snake is since the rooms changed."
Fox finished washing his hair out and turned to let the water just run down his back.
"Also... I don't plan on escaping, I'd rather destroy this place, than just get out. They've done too much to be forgiven. But if I find a way out, I well tell anyone who wants to go." No mercy for the head doctor, Fox had very little mercy to begin with, and the staff of this place had done too much to ever be allowed to live.
"Hmph, I suppose your right." Vergil said with a curt chuckle "I'd like to give the good doctor a nice display my affection towards him. Well, it could be that getting close to this mystery woman could get us close to our beloved Mr. Landel. Either way, it seems like the best course of action at this point."
Vergil scrubbed his hair a bit and let it fall down on him. When his hair was down like this, it really did make him think of his scraggly brother, with his hair dangling in his eyes.
"Our room is M57, but I still need to run it over with Snake and find this Ginji person." he said while washing his hair "I do have to agree with you, though. I'd much rather burn this heap to the ground. That'd show them what happens when one messes with a son of Sparda."
Son of Sparda... that sounded important the way he said it, a title, the way he held the title of Fox as his name.
"Yes, that's true as well. I'm more interested in getting in contact with the man over the radio, since he knows how to get in and out. Let me know what becomes of that if I can't make it back to M57 tonight before you all head out."
It was nice to be clean again, and he couldn't help but glance over at Snake now, who had... just shaved off his beard. Probably to look less like Big Boss. Fox had preferred him with it, but he could understand how it might have made snake uncomfortable.
