Tenzen landed on the other side of the wall on both feet, which may have been among the least of expectations for a ninja of Iga. A landing of a less graceful nature would have been a shameful one, though he wouldn't put it beyond some individuals to disgrace themselves so. But the most important thing was that he had reached and ( Read more... )

[from here]

There was a thud as a meat tenderizer was tossed over from the other side of the wall, slamming into the earth below. It was followed by another, lighter thud, as a flashlight came after it.

Seconds later, Anise herself dropped down from atop the wall, bending her knees to absorb the shock and landing gracefully enough to avoid injury. As soon as her feet were on the ground, however, she let out a heavy, less-than-graceful sigh. Thank goodness those other patients had shown up. The last thing Anise wanted was to deal with a brainwashed patient! Okay, so there were worse things out there, but that was still pretty high on her 'to-avoid' list.

Once she caught her breath, Anise stood up straight, and finally noticed the large, scary-looking man with an axe, standing not too far away.

Startled, the girl let out a small yelp. "Whoa! Where did you come from!?" She hadn't noticed anyone else crossing the Recreational Field, so did this guy come from somewhere else? He wasn't another brainwashed patient, was he?

It was difficult not to notice the two thuds not too far away. Tenzen immediately glanced into it's direction, subtly raising his axe in case it was some sort of threat, only to notice that two items had dropped down nearby. There was only time to raise a black eyebrow, as their apparent owner dropped down from atop the wall soon after. A little girl, curiously enough.

It would seem he wasn't the one one having plans to explore beyond the walls.

The startled reaction only served to amuse the ninja. "The recreational field," he answered simply, though his lips twisted into a slight smirk. "You mean to say you haven't noticed even though you came from the same direction?"

Though even Tenzen could realize that the reason for this wasn't necessarily incompetence. He had crossed the field as stealthily as possible, and the group that had already been present had served as a convenient distraction. And, above all, he had reached this area sooner.

With that, he added smugly: "Well, I suppose I can hardly blame you."

The recreational field? Anise hadn't noticed him at all. Then again, after that brainwashed patient took notice of her, she hadn't given much thought to anything besides running. Chances were, this guy had sneaked through during that time.

"I was kind of distracted, boooo," Anise pouted at the man, though her earlier reaction had already given away that she thought she had been paying good attention to her surroundings.

Now that she felt sure that this guy wasn't going to lunge forward and attack her or anything, Anise picked up the items she'd tossed over the wall, turning the flashlight on and hoisting the mallet over her shoulder. The pout that was there moments ago was gone, and the girl quickly shifted to a more casual attitude.

"You're here alone, right? Where are you going?" Anise had been hoping to find into someone strong to team up with. Maybe running into this guy was a stroke of good luck for her!

"I see," Tenzen answered smugly. "Well, there is hardly any shame in admitting such a thing." Her reaction indeed implied otherwise, however. Still, he hadn't been able to resist mocking her.

But the girl shifted attitudes quickly and began inquiring to his purpose here. Tenzen lowered the axe he had raised before answering, as she obviously couldn't be called a threat. He would have to make use of fellow patients annoyingly enough, and needlessly antagonizing them was rather counter-productive in that regard.

"Indeed," Tenzen answered, though it was something he could have easily lied about in case he had ill intentions. Perhaps the girl was a naive. Be as it may, it wasn't of his concern right now. "I had been hoping to explore the area."
