Night 48: F21-F30 Hallway

Mar 22, 2010 22:32

When the intercom finished another deliberately vague note, Lana was already standing at her door, flashlight in hand and scalpel securely in her coat pocket. She'd neglected to find out exactly how the doors worked at night, but the general idea was clear. Some time soon, they would open, and she had to be ready the moment they did ( Read more... )

When the intercom went off, Falis stirred a bit from a shallow, poison-induced slumber. Senna had been quiet, but that was okay; the odds were Falis wouldn't have been able to hold a coherent conversation anyways. She stretched an immediately regretted it, curling into a ball on her bed.

Damnit, it was like when Kaito had magically kicked the shit out of her and they'd escaped with the caravan. Or that's what Dominikov had told her. She'd been blissfully unconscious for most of it.

Nothing. Nada. No notes on what to do. Even as infrequent as the A&C notes had been lately, none at all seemed strange. A free night off? She wasn't going to complain. They hadn't finished the mission from last night--maybe Senna could see how far she got tonight.

But how fun was it to wander alone? Maybe she could catch one of the girls in the block hall. Falis looked asleep, and having slept through dinner again, Senna didn't know any better. Maybe she needed the rest. Her stomach was rebelling at the habit, grumbling. Ah, well. Tomorrow, she would....

Enough of that. She had to get going.

Senna changed quickly, and snagged her stuff before creeping quickly to Falis' bed. "Hey," she said softly. "I'm sorry about last night."

As Falis was not asleep anymore, she cracked an eye and rolled her head back to see her roommate.

"No fucking apologies from you. My choice to get involved," she said slowly, her words slightly slurred. She reached out for Senna's hand. "You fucking die tonight, I'm gonna kill you."

Half-amused, partially regretful, Senna grabbed Falis' hand and squeezed it with a small grin. "Yeah, well that goes double for you, lady. Don't think I won't hear if you're trouble tonight."

With another squeeze, Senna released her roommate's hand, brushing Falis' hair from her face. "Rest well, okay? I'll talk to you tomorrow."

Hokuto hesitated at the door, then decided not to bother knocking; she usually didn't, and she wasn't going to let herself turn passive now. If someone was changing clothes--well, if it was Falis, she'd seen it all before. If it was Senna, she didn't exactly mind.

"Good evening," she announced, coming in and shutting the door behind her. A look around showed that Senna was gone, but it looked like Falis was possibly asleep. Not like I can stay standing much longer anyway...

Now that was a familiar voice shortly after the door had closed behind Senna. Smiling, Falis rolled from her side onto her back and moved her fingers in an uncoordinated beckon. Eyes clearly showing she'd been drugged, she called to Hokuto. "C'mere pretty girl."

Hokuto smiled faintly and came over, lying down and curling up with her girl. This was what she needed right now. "Hi..." She moved to put her head on Falis' shoulder, wanting to be close to her without hurting either of them.

"Careful... Been a while since I been like this," Falis mumbled, wrapping the arm on her good side about Hokuto.

"Feel better?"

Saying yes felt like a betrayal to Subaru; it made no sense and she knew it, but there wasn't much logic to grief. So, she murmured "The painkiller wore off, but I wouldn't take any more." Her excuse was that she didn't like the way it made her feel; while true, she also felt like she deserved to be in pain. As soon as she had the strength, she'd be kicking herself for that later.

But, being in Falis' arms really did make her feel a little better. Being with someone she loved helped even when she couldn't say it.

"Normally I'd tell the vultures to fuck off about their poisons, but even I gotta say it'd been stupid of me to not take it," Falis replied. "Makes it hard to think, though."

Which is exactly why it took her about a minute to realize that Hokuto just admitted to being injured. "You hurt?"

"Stabbed in the chest by monster claws last night--not sure how bad before healing." She wasn't sure how bad it was now, either; for all she knew the monster had cracked her ribcage, too. She did remember the moment of impact, of feeling blood run down her chest, but it was a blank after that.

Then again, for all she knew she hadn't needed healing; she had yet to look at the wound, but when she blacked out it might have been purely from shock or pain.

Somehow Falis managed a bit of a growl. "I'll fucking kill it," she stated, despite how much she really wasn't capable of it.

She then gently moved her hand to Hokuto's chest. "Lemme see..."

"It's all taped up." Besides that, she was wearing several layers that would make it hard to access her chest (although the blouse did button up) and she didn't want to move. If she had her way about it, they weren't moving for the rest of the night.

...Some night off THIS is.

"Oh."

Falis still lightly rest the palm of her hand on Hokuto's chest, taking in as best she could the extent of the bandaging.

"What was it?"

"Nothing I'd seen before--I don't know the name. It had claws for hands." Hokuto shivered a little and snuggled in closer; this outfit still wasn't as warm as she liked when she wasn't up and about. Or maybe that was just because she was still in really bad shape.

I'll probably be useless tomorrow night, too, she thought sourly. This really sucked.

"That really doesn't help. You have any idea how many beasties have claws for hands?"

Feeling Hokuto shiver, Falis moved her arm from around the girl and groped for her sheet, one foot pushing it out from underneath her legs. "You cold, pretty girl?"
