Day 48: Intercom, Evening

Mar 19, 2010 07:17

"AACHOO! Ahem!" The Head Doctor's slightly-better-but-still-congested voice came on clearly over the intercom. The sound of Nurse Lydia sighing and pulling out a tissue from somewhere in the background was also audible ( Read more... )

Aside from writing a bunch in her journal, Anise hadn't gotten much done today. It was an annoying feeling, being escorted back to her room while feeling like she could have done so much more. She even forgot to make Nightshift plans! Again.

Besides, she wanted to talk to Luke, after hearing about what happened to him. He was probably going to be okay, but the less time he spent moping around, the better. Besides, Anise just didn't like hearing special counseling victims act so apologetic. It made her start to think; maybe she hadn't taken her own brainwashing seriously enough...? When her friends assured her that things had worked out better than they could have, Anise was quick to agree, wanting to put it all behind her as soon as possible. Was that wrong?

--Ugh, she couldn't start thinking about that again. Luke was just being Luke, and things were going to blow over soon enough ( ... )

Rika frowned a little as she walked into the room, but she almost immediately forgot her own worries. "Are you okay, Anise? What -- "

Then she looked around the room, noticing something different. "What? Why in the world would they just throw out your stuff without asking?", she asked, as she sat down on the other bed, poking her fork at her fish. "That's really awful. I'm sorry."

It really was. When you only had so many things to hang on to? Things like flowers mattered a lot. Rika understood that and was definitely sympathetic.

The sound of her roommate's voice made Anise conscious of her fuming, and she calmed down a bit as she looked over at the other girl. Right away, Rika seemed to have figured out what the problem was. She had probably gotten used to the sight of flowers in the room, making it easy to notice their absence.

...So she probably also saw how quickly they were dying. It made Anise happy, in a funny sort of way, that she'd take her side despite that. "Right!? That makes me so mad!"

Still irritated, Anise made another jab at her food, though the motion was far less violent this time. Having someone around who seemed to understand her feelings was helping her calm down. Anise chewed and swallowed the piece of fish, and then sighed. She knew she couldn't keep fuming all night.

"Um, so anyway, how've you been? We haven't talked in a bit." Actually, Anise had been pretty worried about Rika. Not only was she fairly new to the institute, but she was young - really young. This had to be a scary place for her.

Shinji felt drained. He'd broken down and cried more then once today and he felt empty, if also a bit better. Kaworu was coming to see him tonight and Dr. Wilson had said he'd try and find out about his SDAT player. And he'd met Rei. Rei Ayanami. He had left his dinner untouched so far and was simply staring at the ceiling in quite contemplation. He and Rei had a complicated relationship to say the least and he remembered the first time he'd met her, wrapped in bandages, struggling to obey orders. He didn't want to know how his father could be so cruel to Rei, to Shinji. Not that he seemed to pay Shinji any mind ( ... )

Dinner shift meant night was one step closer, and for that, Yomi was as glad as she could be. It was only in the dark that Yomi was beginning to feel like herself, where memories lost their potency and she could drop the act completely ( ... )

Hokuto had had a long day, and she hadn't even been conscious for most of it. She hadn't so much as tried to eat lunch--which might have been why when she tried to get up at her nurse's prodding, she blacked out. She was aware of being taken to the infirmary, but she'd just just curled up on the cot she was placed on and drifted off.

She wasn't happy to wake up and realize she was in a wheelchair, but her nurse said something about it being for her safety while she was so unsteady on her feet. Hokuto didn't much care, but she didn't have the energy--or at the moment, the will--to get up, either.

She did not intend on letting herself go completely catatonic, though; she had enough spark left in her to refuse that much. Knowing she needed to eat if she possibly could, she looked her dinner over; she wasn't in the mood for fish, but the chocolate mousse... well, at least one thing was going right for her today.

Looking at her roommate, she added very softly, "Good evening."

At the sound of footsteps returning to the cell, Yomi looked up, and sure enough, in came her roommate. In rolled her roommate, to be precise. Oh, something had happened, it seemed. Was the girl injured somewhere Yomi couldn’t see?

She didn’t say anything until the second nurse had left, eyes roaming over the wheelchair. Its occupant was hardly the same extroverted girl Yomi had met the night she’d been told F7 was to get another occupant. And she hadn’t been paying enough attention to Hokuto outside the short times they saw each other to hazard a guess as to what had caused this transformation.

Yomi returned Hokuto’s look. It apparently wasn’t a very good evening for the girl, anyway. “What happened? You don’t look so good.”

She took a bite of the mousse; delicious, as always. She savored it, partly because she knew she something so rich should be eaten slowly when her stomach was this empty. Finally, she looked back at Yomi; her expression was mostly blank, but her eyes were haunted. "Bad battle last night," she said quietly. Nobody had died, but getting stabbed in the chest like that had been like experiencing her own death all over again.

Her voice was barely audible when she added, "And my twin brother's gone." She'd known for a while, deep inside, but she'd denied it, wanting confirmation. Now, she'd let go of the illusion that she was wrong; he was her twin. She knew.

Such a failtard, Peter. emotionl4arobot March 20 2010, 12:48:23 UTC
Brainiac 5 and his nurse both stopped in the doorway and stared as Peter let out a yell of frustration. Neither seemed to know exactly what to make of the situation at first, and the nurse was the first to break the shocked silence.

"Tyler! Calm down, you'll upset your roommate and you don't want to do that when you two get along so well, do you?" she reprimanded sternly. "Now if there's a problem with your meal, you can let me know and I'll do my best to fix it, but if not, you'll just have to calm down and we'll deal with it in the morning, alright?"

That said, she pushed Brainiac 5 gently towards his chair, paused long enough to make sure Peter didn't have any legitimate complaints to make, then left the room.

Once the door had closed behind her with a final click, the Coluan directed a concerned look at the other boy. "What happened, Peter? Did something...?"

He couldn't see any physical problems, but it could have easily been something else that had made his frien- roommate that upset.

Brainiac 5 opened his mouth to point out that wasn't exactly helpful, nor did it explain what exactly had happened that might have made Peter so... irritable. After all, almost everyone here had to have the same basic level of frustration with being abducted. There were few who thought that it was an improvementBut before he could mention any of this, Peter spoke up again and the slightly confused look on Brainiac 5's face deepened into a frown as Peter started something that quickly became a rant ( ... )
