Day 48: Women's Showers (4th Shift)

With her torso wrapped once again to hide the disfigurement left behind from her hybridization, Teresa found she was the first in the showers. It figured that the handlers would take care of her and her... unsightly mark before anyone else had a chance to catch a glimpse. It wasn't as if Teresa cared, unless it was someone she knew personally,

Mihai was getting better at blocking out his nurse's rambling, though he didn't know if he should actually be thankful for the apparent talent. Few things angered women more than thinking the man they lectured wasn't paying attention. Mihai knew his would be a terrible fate indeed, should his nurse assume such a thing. He could barely endure her assaults as they were, and he didn't want to imagine then getting worse.

Still, the old man had been given a fair bit to mull over, not only from his conversations, but also from what he hadn't been told. Badou had left more than one interesting note on the bulletin, and it made Mihai rather eager for the night when he would actually hear the details. He couldn't pull out the map right now for obvious reasons, but maybe if Mihai figured out the path in his mind, he wouldn't make a wrong turn.

Unfortunately, in his efforts to figure out which way he would be going in the future, the old man had stopped paying attention to the path he was traveling at present. Really though, the nurses all dressed the same, so how could they blame Mihai when he got confused and started following the wrong one? It'd been an innocent mistake: two of them stopped to converse, just for a moment, and then went their separate ways. Anyone could have accidentally gotten them confused, and ended up heading toward the women's showers instead of the men's. It should have been completely understandable. Mihai for one had certainly done worse in his day.

The nurses weren't hearing it, however. They probably weren't able to, given the way one in particular screeched when she discovered how close Mihai had come to the door. And as had been the case so many times before, Mihai really couldn't say much anyway--especially not when they fetched his normal caretaker.

But because he had done worse, Mihai knew how to handle the situation now. Say nothing aside from apologies, nod or shake his head each time he heard his name (but only if he knew motion they wanted), and most importantly, don't look any of them in the eye unless told to. Humiliating, perhaps, yet Mihai could swallow his pride if it meant ending this torture sooner.
