His mane was still damp from the ridiculous human cleaning ritual, something that Scar found rather dissatisfying. At the very least he had been able to leave the showers quickly, so the change in tactic had at least worked for now. There was a major downside, however; he had to put up with a certain female's well-meant praise as he ( Read more... )

Hair still damp, Bella entered the Sun Room with a towel in hand, trying her best to dry her long hair as quickly as she could. She could already feel her shirt clinging to her still partially damp frame, and it was causing her to become self conscious of her appearance. Because of such she quickly moved over to an empty chair and sat herself down, allowing herself to have more time to try and towel dry whatever she could.

From across the room she could see her fiance reading a book of some sort, and she decided not to bother him. After all, he needed his time away from her, did he not? And certainly she needed her time away from him. They would have all of eternity to spend time together.

Her attention was suddenly drawn to a light pressure against her ankle, and Bella looked down to see a small orange kitten rubbing up against her leg. Instantly allowing a warm smile to cross her lips, she placed her towel against her lap and bent down to pick up the small kitten, placing it on her lap as she ran her fingers over the soft fur. "Cute," she cooed, her smile turning into a grin at the sound of the kitten's small purr. She had always enjoyed the company of animals (not that her parents had any, sadly,) so any contact she could get with them was always welcome.

At first, Howl had been looking forward to spending a bit of time alone. Or at least, as alone as he was allowed to be in this place. There were always people, in every corner, in every room. The nurses always wanted him to socialize, as if that would somehow alleviate his stress! Being bullied into make friends like an unsociable child was humiliating. He wasn't sure if it was better or worse that they were all complete strangers, for the most part. They knew nothing substantial about him, and expected nothing of him, but it took so much effort to be glowing and charming for every soul that crossed his path. It was leading him to be increasingly himself around those he had practically just met. He supposed that they, like Calcifer, Sophie and Michael, were trapped with him anyway, so it hardly mattered if they found him intolerable. It might make things uncomfortable, though.

All the same, these thoughts dissolved when he saw a glimpse of dark hair and a vaguely familiar face. It was only familiar in as much as he had attempted to be friendly with the lady once before the nurses had swept in. Surely, he could get over himself just long enough to offer a beautiful young woman an apology!

And so Howl picked himself up off the couch and strode across the room to stand before her. She seemed distracted by the kitten, but he made sure to look his most graceful anyway.

"They're a pleasant addition to the room, aren't they? Odd in this sort of place," he commented warmly. Howl waited to offer a slight, gentlemanly bow for when she (hopefully) looked up at him. "Pardon my interruption, but I believe that I owe you an apology, miss."

A man's voice caused Bella to look up, and instantly she recognized him from the day before. The kitten in her lap mewed at the sudden lack of attention, and she gave it a soft pat on the head before speaking. "An apology? For what?"

Had he done something wrong? She certainly couldn't remember - they had spoken very briefly, and what they had spoken about certainly didn't warrant an apology of any kind.

Needless to say, a confused look had crossed Bella's face at the man's words, followed by a sheepish smile. "I don't think you did anything wrong."

The small kitten had curled into a ball on her lap and appeared to be napping. Smiling down at it for a moment, she looked back up and smiled. "I'm Bella, by the way. I don't remember if I introduced myself or not."
