Luckily for Mele, the night had ended before Tenzen had changed his mind and deemed Mele appropriate for target practice. The shinigami had to resist the urge to look away uncomfortably. It seemed she wasn't going to be able to avoid the topic of Hitsugaya.

"Personal experience," Momo replied. "It has happened before; people here and then disappearing, only to show up days, weeks, later without any memory of having been here at all, recalling different events in their homeland than they had before the first time they'd been there."

Her expression grew a bit guarded, despite trying to seem calm. "I admit, that would make it seem like memories were just altered, but there has been other instances that dispute that theory. Someone very close to me, from my homeland, died while here. I know this for a fact as I held his dead body and death and souls are my realms of expertise. I assure you, he was dead."

She paused a moment to recalm her mind. "A few days later, and he showed up here again, the same man, with the same childhood memories, the same soul that I know as well as my own, with absolutely no memory of having been here before. Almost as if the first him had never existed in the first place."
