Night 47: Staff-Only Food Counter

((From here.))Claude didn't sense any danger as he stepped into the room, but that didn't mean he could lower his guard. It would be too easy to get ambushed in a room they weren't familiar with, especially if the layout happened to work against them somehow. Still, as the flashlight beam spilled into the room, he didn't see anything out of the ( Read more... )

They had already covered a lot of ground tonight, seeing how they'd searched a few rooms and even found a patio of all things. Watching that display of Yuffie's had also been educational in its own way, though that had been more discouraging than anything else. Guy knew he'd have to report back to Luke on that, despite the fact that it might depress his friend. Either that, or it would just make him that much more determined ( ... )

Claude watched with anticipation as Guy tried to open the door, and sank a little when it was apparent that things wouldn't be so easy this time around. Ah, well. Considering the last two doors they'd gone through had been unlocked, Claude guessed it would have been unreasonable to assume that this one would be open, too. If it was anything like the library door, though, then it probably wasn't anything they couldn't handle. The main thing Claude was worried about was whether Guy was overexerting himself by doing all this door-bashing. But he was probably feeling okay if he suggested it in the first place, right?

"Sounds good to me," Claude replied. He angled his body in a way where his shoulder was facing the door. "Okay, then. One, two, three--!"

Just like earlier, he threw his full weight at the door, assuming that Guy would do what he could to pitch in. Hopefully they'd get it open in two or less tries!

Breaking into another room wasn't exactly Guy's idea of fun, but it wasn't like he was going to refuse to do it just because it might leave him with a sore foot. That wasn't as bad as overusing his arms when they were still trying to heal up, at least. Either way, they needed to get through here, though he might end up a little irked if it turned out to be something pointless again. He had a good feeling, though. As nonsensical as this place could be, the layout of the rooms generally followed some form of logic ( ... )

When the door didn't give in immediately, Claude was ready to throw his shoulder at the door again on Guy's count of three. Shuddering underneath their combined weight, the door flew open. The sudden force took Claude off guard, and he felt his feet trip up as he nearly lost his balance. Thankfully, it only took him a second to catch himself, though. He let out a small breath and straightened. Whew, he didn't want to go tumbling onto the floor with a sharp blade in hand, that was for sure!

If he hadn't been carrying stuff already, he would have offered his hand for a high-five. Instead, he settled on flashing his friend a smile. "Nice work."

His shoulder was a little sore, and it'd probably be sporting bruises in the morning, but that was okay. Personally, he was just curious to see what was up ahead.

[from here]

Being indoors always gave her a feeling of relief. At least in here, she knew there were few places from which an enemy could attack. The sky was no longer an option and pushing up through the floorboards was nearly impossible. It left only her sides vulnerable and with the other two around, she doubted that would be much of a problem.

The Detective wouldn't let anything happen to her for fear of his own hide after all. If she were to come to harm, she'd make him pay for it triplefold. Arlene, on the other hand, with all her knives and weaponry was a bit of a loose canon. Why she was still following, Franziska had no idea. Maybe they were heading to the same place or maybe there was just something about the prosecutor that the woman found interesting. Whatever it was, she'd have to--

Franziska stopped as she noticed the door already open. Someone or something was already in the kitchen, making the prosecutor scowl at the very thought. What if they were contaminating the countertops? She needed a clean surface ( ... )

It didn't occur to him until after the smell of blood had gone, but Ms. von Karma was putting herself in danger by taking the lead. For all they knew, they could be walking right into a trap! If they encountered anything up ahead, he didn't know if they could escape it without getting lost. It'd be just their luck if they ran into a dead-end...

The outdoor patio surprised him; he had been wondering where the staff went during meal times. He thought they might have had their own V.I.P. lounge somewhere. Seeing that it wasn't all that made him feel loads better.

Gumshoe let out a sigh once they had reached their destination (he guessed, because Ms. von Karma had stopped and was barking orders at him). He shifted the box under his left arm and saluted with his right. "Yes sir!"

He strode over to the door and shone his flashlight inside, hoping he wouldn't find anything scary. "It's just two guys in there, sir," he reported, lowering the beam and turning back to the prosecutor. "Looks like they came here for supplies."

For the moment that Gumshoe was looking inside, Franziska readied herself for what was to come next. It seemed so easy - preparing fingerprint powder - and yet she felt this heavy sense of...something in the pit of her stomach. She wouldn't call it dread or fear or even nerves, but it was something and she didn't like it. Whatever it was, it indicated she was experiencing some normal human emotion and von Karmas were above humanity. She was supposed to be ruthless in her pursuit of the culprit.

And she would be.

Once she learned to ignore this feeling.

"Good, then we're going in," she snapped, once Gumshoe had returned. Without waiting for much of a response, she stormed ahead, hoping to get inside and throw herself into her job before her feelings got the better of her.
