Night 47: Activities Shed

[from here]Following Asuka into the dark shed, Junpei relied upon the girl to present the light and he took a better grip on the bat. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any creepy crawlies, but he was prepared as much as he could for some. The last time he'd been in the shed there wasn't anything, but the damn place was prime nesting grounds for things ( Read more... )

The shed was silent and empty when Battler entered it, which was probably for the best; he didn't want to keep Beato waiting for too long, or she might try to do something stupid. He found what he was looking for relatively quickly: a small cluster of bats, both wooden and metal. It was a good thing they'd visited here today, or he probably wouldn't know that they were here. Considering the location, he was unlikely to find anything else that could be used as a weapon. Actually, to be perfectly honest, it was a little surprising that these were real and not the padded ones you used when you were little. It worked in his favor, however, so he wasn't about to complain.

For his intended purpose, he selected a wooden one. Metallic bats had the tendency to dent and break down pretty badly if exposed to too much trauma; wooden ones were used professionally because they stood up much better to the speed and force of the players. For a game of baseball, it didn't really matter unless you could throw or hit on that level, but when it came to self-defense, that level of durability became a requirement. A destroyed weapon wasn't going to help him very much.

He gave the bat a test swing, frowning as he did so. ... The human body was a surprisingly fragile thing. This alone was more than enough to kill with minimal effort, especially with a well-placed strike.

Well, it wasn't like he intended on hurting anyone. It would be vastly preferable not to use this thing at all. He only had it so that he could defend himself if any assailants came after him again, that was all. Battler had absolutely no intention swing this at someone unless he absolutely needed to.

Although, speaking of which, wasn't there someone who needed to be able to protect themself more than he did? He had a feeling that she wasn't going to go for this sort of thing, but she was injured, and there was a chance he might not be around if she got attacked a second time. .... It was worth a shot.
