Night 47: M-B Bathroom

Feb 11, 2010 22:19

[from here]

The snatch-and-grab had taken only a few seconds before Falis had Ritsu inside the bathroom. She spun about once through the door to place herself between her prey and its means of escape, kicking the door shut behind her. She would have her answers.

falis, ritsu

Ritsu, having been so tensely wound before the sudden attack, let out a piteous scream as he was grabbed from behind, though the sound was significantly muffled by the hand clamped over his mouth. Rather than fight back, as a more confident individual might have, his first instinct was to try to flee, like prey squirming and whimpering in the talons of a predator ( ... )

Once the exit had been secured, there was no need for her to continue to hold Ritsu, so she let him go and leaned back against the door. If anyone attempted to get in, she would know immediately.

Falis' eyes were narrowed as she watched the man, arms crossed before her and the katana quite visible on her hip. She did not immediately reply when Ritsu finally looked at her and stammered out words. He didn't look like a magic-user to her, but stranger things had happened. Finally, after a few long moments, she spoke.

"Last night - explain."

Ritsu's tears didn't stop as he repeatedly looked from Falis's face, to the weapon she wore, to the door she was blocking, and back again, his panicked expression now tinged with confusion. The princess had been so kind to him the night before, so warm and welcoming, and yet now her presence was menacing and cold. He trembled as he tried to understand what had caused this change to come over her...and then, with her short question, he realized - she must be angry at him for ruining her party ( ... )

Falis wasn't angry. Not yet, but if Ritsu kept this pathetic act up, she might start to get angry.

"Aa. Grow a fucking backbone," she replied. "If I was going to kill you, you'd be dead already. Now explain exactly what happened with you last night."

Patience, hunter. Patience.

...now Falis was starting to feel like the bad guy here. This was ridiculous; Ritsu had brought magic unbidden into her territory and then it was hidden from her. She had every right to hunt him. So why did she feel like she was kicking a puppy?

When the expression of true fear crossed his face and words were stammered out, Falis' eyes narrowed dangerously. Magic as an accident? And Kaito was secretly her lover.

"No, I think you can, Ritsu," Falis replied in a low voice. "Whatever it was, it happened in my room. You owe me an explanation."

Ritsu whimpered a bit, again, at her tone, and quickly averted his eyes, his expression apprehensive. She had a point - after perpetuating something so rude against her while in her room, and ruining a party she was no doubt excited for, he had no right to refuse her at least an explanation of what had happened...no matter how many times he apologized, he doubted she would accept it, unless he told her somethingBut this lowly Ritsu could not put this kind woman in danger - placing her in the path of Akito's wrath to save himself from her anger...though he was selfish and shameless for clinging to his life in many situations, in this one he would not value it above hers. She deserved safety and happiness far more than he ( ... )

Staring at Ritsu for a long time, the thick silence was finally broken with a heavy sigh. She had a feeling she was going to regret this, but she moved from the door and knelt down before the man. Her sword scraped along the floor and she reached out to put both hands on his shoulders.

"Look at me," she told him.

Ritsu flinched as he felt her touch on his shoulders, having expected something far harsher than that rather gentle contact. He didn't want to look up - he hated seeing disappointment in the eyes of others, knowing he had let them down, angered them.

But it would have been rude to disregard her request...so slowly, tentatively, he lifted his head, peering at her nervously and trying not to let his gaze drop, as he instinctively wanted to. Lowly being such as himself did not deserve to look others in the eye so closely, especially royalty.

If disappointment was what Ritsu was expecting to see in Falis' gaze, he was wrong. Her crimson eyes were steady, determined with the slightest softness to them. She did not move her hands from his shoulders, partially because she didn't want him to try and escape now that she'd stopped blocking the door, but mostly because she felt like he needed the contact.

"There's no reason to be afraid of anything happening to me. I am more than just a princess; I can take care of myself." As if the sword didn't make that clear all on its own. "I have dealt with magic before and those that wield it with the intent to harm. I can't imagining you harming even a fly, so let me protect you. To make things very clear - you telling me what happened is not going to put me in any more danger than I already am in, or have been in the past."

A pause. "Now, tell me."

Ritsu's chin trembled at her kind words, and he turned his gaze downward again, just for a moment, pondering the situation one last time. It was true, and he could see it...Alita-hime-sama was indeed strong...stronger than Akito-sama, and hopefully beyond his influence.

That meant that, were it found out that his lowly self had divulged the family secret, it would be he alone that met with a punishment against which he could not defend. Such punishment would be well deserved, he was sure...his family had already suffered such a great deal, simply by having him in their presence. "...you don't need to protect this unimportant Ritsu, Alita-hime-sama..."

He sighed gently, peering up at her meekly, a blush coloring is tear-stained cheeks. He owed her an explanation, and he would give it to her - any price to be paid would be his alone.

"I...I'm cursed..." He finally managed to murmur, not used to speaking of it aloud.

"Everyone deserves to be protected, even the unimportant ones," Falis replied. "It is my decision - something I wish to do, not something I feel I need to."

And then he said it. Well, kind of.

"Cursed..."

Kagura had once mentioned something about being cursed before, but Falis never could get out of her what her curse had been. Ritsu and Kagura were related. Was this some kind of blood-curse? Oy, she had a hard time remembering what the ancient texts said about blood-curses. Where the hell was Dominikov when she needed him? Aside from no longer existing.

"Okay... what kind of curse?"

Ritsu's gaze remained down-turned as he wrung his hands in his lap, wondering how much he should say, and when. There was Kagura-san to think about...and though the young man doubted Akito's punishment for him would involve her, as the two hadn't been particularly close before he arrived here, he couldn't help but worry. Not to mention she shared ownership of the secret, and should have a say in regards to who was privy to it.

Yet, he was already here, and in addition to owing the princess who sat before him, she had said that she would protect him, someone so terribly undeserving, so insignificant. He would have to phrase things carefully...not mention that his dear relative was involved, unless he was specifically asked, but still give the young woman the information she had wanted ( ... )

"E-Eeeh?!" Ritsu barely had time to yelp in reaction to her words, her arms suddenly around him, something which didn't happen to him often, curse or no curse. He blushed intensely, his face practically glowing with surprise as the contact registered for a second or two, before--

POOF!! As suddenly as it had the night before, the embrace produced a cloud of smoke which quickly filled the room, obscuring nearly everything in view as it hung in the air.

When it finally cleared several moments later, the young man was gone, replaced by a pile of clothes on the floor with a small, trembling brown monkey sitting on top of it. He peered fearfully up at the young woman, who, thanks to the immediate difference in size, seemed to be towering over him as he still tried to absorb what had just happened. His black eyes shimmered, human emotions of shock and confusion playing out through the animalistic countenance.

His voice, still distinctly his, echoed from the small body, though the mouth didn't move. "Eeeeh!? Wh-what?!"

The was the smoke and then... a monkey? Not even a big, muscular monkey with enough weight to make even her consider leaving it be. No, it was a little, kind of cute monkey.

Falis blinked in bewilderment and tilted her head at the monkey. That was not what she'd been expecting when he said he transformed. Curses were generally there to scare people. This little monkey wasn't scary at all. Reaching out she gently poked the monkey as if confirming it was real.

"You're a monkey." It was more a statement than a question.
