Yet another intercom jingle sounded, and the nurses, anticipating the Head Doctor's orders, already began grouping around the patients as he began to speak

Oh, it looked like he had a real winner here. The guy had a bit of an attitude and hadn't even bothered to shake Zack's hand, but none of that was enough to deter the soldier. He was used to people like this; for every over-eager, joking infantryman he'd come across, there were two more anti-social types. Their general had been one of the worst cases of that before he'd gone off and lost his mind.
It hadn't been a good idea to remind himself of that. Zack felt the sting of betrayal and buried anger and quickly forced it away. Now wasn't the time. There were countless other things to be glad for, like being alive again and getting to see his good friends.
So this Tieria was pretty set on the checking the room, was he? Zack smiled to himself and then walked over to his desk; he didn't sit, but grabbed up the plate of food and then held it in one hand while he leaned against the side of the desk and ate, watching his roommate work.
"Ahh, yeah, I did that too. There wasn't much other than the flashlight under the pillow and the boots in the closet. You're really going to want those," he advised between bites. "And sorry for what I said before. My last roommate just slept all the time and then he eventually disappeared, so... you're a marked improvement." The truth of the matter was that Zack felt bad for whoever that first guy had been, but he had little idea of who he was, let alone where he went.
All the soldier knew was that it was going to be a lot of fun rooming with this guy. Zack appreciated challenges.
So he had been here for some time, after all. At least someone more experienced with the details of this place could be helpful--as could the flashlight. Tieria made an immediate mental note to retrieve it tonight, now understanding exactly what the batteries were for.
At first Tieria looked as if he didn't care what attempts at conversation the man was going to make, shooting a mildly disdainful look at him talking with his mouth full of impractically-shaped food, but no more than a second passed by before he made a beeline for that closet. Boots aside, there wasn't a great deal to see; the same design stuck out on nearly every outfit. Tieria took no real notice. He was more than familiar with the standard procedure of uniforms, even if Celestial Being didn't currently adhere to them. Although he preferred the shape of his cardigan, clothes didn't particularly need to be unique in his eyes. As he shut the doors, one statement from his roommate kept troubling him.
"Disappeared..."
The thought was unpleasant, to say the least. People like Lockon might have been leaving every day at random, then, before they had a chance to get out. Tieria wouldn't allow that at any cost--Lockon was his responsibility now, and the guilt of failing in their world had yet to stop weighing on him.
He might have been able to suppress the concern on his face, if he'd tried incredibly hard. Still, the only thing consistent about emotions were their unpredictability, impossible to quantify or encrypt. It seemed that from the moment he found them, a wire had snapped which could never be replaced again.
Even though Zack had caught that look, it wasn't like he could make much of it. Sure, the guy was glaring at him, but what for? Because he was standing and eating? It was hardly a crime, and so the soldier kept on with what he was doing. If they were going to be roommates, then they were going to have to get accustomed to each other.
Still, Zack figured he already had an advantage. He was used to dealing with sourpusses. Even if this guy wasn't much of a conversationalist, at least he was being active and asking questions. It beat stony silence.
Having eaten enough of the food to placate his appetite, Zack set his plate back down and then frowned at the melted ice cream. Whoops. While he was a fan of sweets, he tried to stay away from them for the sake of keeping fit, so maybe it was for the best that his dessert was now nothing more than liquid grossness.
"No, nothing like that," he replied, glancing back to Tieria. It would have been exciting if his previous roommate had pulled something like that off, but that was about as far from the truth as it could get. "He just slept and slept and then was gone. I'm assuming this place did something with him." Zack narrowed his eyes and then moved to sit on his bed. He didn't like the implications one bit, but there was no way to know what had really happened. He would bet 500 gil that it wasn't good, though.

"What were the circumstances? Did he escape?"
