Yet another intercom jingle sounded, and the nurses, anticipating the Head Doctor's orders, already began grouping around the patients as he began to speak

Both lunch and the shift afterwards had contrived to put Brainiac 5 in a particularly bad mood, the kind that would have previously had him locking himself away in his laboratory for a good few days and shouting at anyone who tried to come inside. But since he no longer had that option and he would have been a sixth-level intellect to try shouting at the nurses, he did the next best thing, which was stalking all the way back to his room while ignoring his nurse's attempt to be cheery (and her long-suffering sigh when that failed) and all but flinging himself into his chair.
His nurse set his dinner down in front of him and he thought he saw her direct a sympathetic look at Peter out of the corner of his eye before she left, but the Coluan was too busy glaring at his meal to be bothered to check beyond that. He knew he should eat something, since he hadn't had anything for lunch for some reason, but for the moment he felt too angry to do even that much.
Should be *bitching senses*. :|bemotionl4arobotFebruary 9 2010, 05:43:38 UTC
Brainiac 5 nearly snapped back an answer at that, but managed to narrowly avoid doing that and potentially ruining the rest of the conversation. It wasn't Peter's fault he'd had a bad afternoon, he reminded himself.
"I'm not," he said eventually. "I'm just." He wasn't sure what he could say other than 'staring angrily at it'. "...it's nothing," he finished lamely.
Trying to cover for what was clearly an awkward topic, he began picking through the meal and eating a few mouthfuls of the pasta. "Did you learn anything particularly useful?" he asked around a forkful.
Oh, he'd forgotten about therapy happening over the few days. So far he hadn't been taken to meet with House again, but that was likely due to happen in the next day or so. Something else to look forward to, he supposed.
"No, it wasn't that," he sighed. "I met with another patient. Lelouch," he continued, and the unconscious emphasis on the name made it clear how well that meeting had gone.
"It... didn't go particularly well. While he may have some good plans in mind, he's extremely self-centred and doesn't seem to be able to admit that other people can have their own concerns and reasons for doing certain things. He acted like he could somehow know exactly what my plans were and that he thought I didn't think them through correctly. It was... rather frustrating," he finished lamely.

Peter's comment got an odd cough from Brainy that might have been a cut off burst of laughter. "Yes, that Lelouch," he agreed, his mood dispersing somewhat thanks to that comment.
"I had hoped to find out more about him and possibly work together but..." he frowned, taking a bite of his own dinner before speaking again. "Well, I suppose I found out more than I anticipated. I'm still trying to decide if working together would be beneficial at all, or if the potential for frustration would outweigh the gain."
He shifted his own chair around a little to also face Peter better, a momentary look of confusion on his face. "I didn't think he sounded at all the type to be used as a tool," he said. "What gave you that impression?"

"That's true," Brainiac 5 agreed. "But having as much information as possible is key to solving problems like this. And, well, any problem for that matter. While it might not be actively assisting him to escape at this very moment..."
His voice trailed off, and the Coluan paused to swirl some more spaghetti up in his fork and eat it. Skipping out on eating lunch had left him much hungrier than he cared to admit.
"While it isn't helping him right now," he continued after he'd finished the mouthful, "there's the possibility that the information could have more practical applications when seen from a different viewpoint, or that he or others working with him will uncover further information later."
Brainiac 5 sighed, tapping his fork against the side of his dish. "I don't like to admit it, but it may be more worthwhile in the long run to at least try and work together
