So the clinic was still alive. And Kratos was going to be coming by later on tonight to pick up the stuff Ritsuka still had sitting in his closet. It was the last thing he'd taken care of when Tamaki had been mysteriously absent, prior to his sudden release. A payment from Guy to Kratos for his help. He'd never been able to get it to him, not really knowing who the guy was, and soon after that, the clinic had all but dissolved but for Raine's quiet efforts. Now, it seemed, the club was making a return. Although the location was completely unknown, which rather killed the usefulness of it all. Unless patients knew where to go, the clinic was merely flailing in the dark.

Heading back to his room, Ritsuka realized he was the first one there and dismissively agreed to whatever his nurse was saying about finishing his meal tonight. He'd eaten as much as he could today regardless of the conversations he'd had, so now he wasn't all that hungry, but he'd try, he supposed. If not, he could always pass it over to Nataku. Then again, Nataku didn't eat all that much either.

The door closed behind him and Ritsuka sat at his desk, picking through his meal. Salad first, avoiding the crunchy croutons and the parts of the salad that were too heavily drenched in dressing. He didn't like the sharp tang that much, even if he could stomach it. Dropping one elbow onto the table and putting his cheek in his hand, he started in on his spaghetti, lazily pushing the food around on his plate.

Nataku returned from the greenhouse strangely cheerful, his clothing still streaked in places with fresh soil. The nurse had dragged him off to wash his hands before dinner but he had gotten away with promising to change his shirt as soon as he got in.

Dinner didn't even sound so bad, and after skipping most of that pizza stuff today, he was starving.

His roommate was already there when he arrived and Nataku grinned, shifting his tray so he could wave a before he crossed over to his bed. The tray was transfered to his lap once he settled cross-legged and comfortable. "Hey, you look depressed." Nataku swallowed a forkful of noodles. "What's wrong?"

Ritsuka heard the door open and he looked up, waving back to Nataku before returning to his meal. The spaghetti wasn't so bad, really. It was just the heaviness of it all that was getting to him. Or maybe it was all the thoughts running in his head. He hadn't seen Soubi since the guy left for his therapy and after what happened to Ritsuka in his, the boy was more than worried about his friend. If Soubi had Makiko, or someone worse (was that possible? More than likely), then he could have been in serious danger. Ritsuka had slept through all of dinner yesterday thanks to her, what if Soubi had been put out for the entire day?

He glanced across the room at Nataku when the other boy asked how he was doing, and decided not to say anything. Spoiling Nataku's appetite wasn't something Ritsuka wanted to do. Instead, he tried to smile and shook his head. "Just thinking about something. How've you been?"

"Ok I guess. I've been sleeping a lot lately." He didn't sound particularly worried about it anymore. Tonight things would be different. He was sure of it.

...Well, he was optimistic about it. For sure. That was close enough.

He had a few more bites in silence before setting his fork down before levelling Ritsuka with a Look. "It's ok if you're not having a good day and you don't want me to bug you, but don't expect me not to notice you're faking."

Sleeping a lot? Ritsuka felt a pang of worry rush through him like ice in his blood as he remembered what had happened to Tamaki. The boy had slept for longer periods of time and then he'd moved rooms, and then he'd disappeared. What if the same thing happened to Nataku? Sure, Ritsuka didn't know Nataku as well as he'd known Tamaki, but he didn't want to see the other boy get brainwashed and lose his real life. He didn't want someone else to suffer like that. "...be careful about that. Sleeping too much is bad for your health."

Miku had slept a lot, too. And Alfons. Ritsuka frowned as he stared at his food, trying to puzzle that out. Was it something to do with sleeping? Was that how they got to people?

He was so deep in his thoughts, he didn't notice that Nataku had gone quiet until he suddenly called Ritsuka out on his lies. The boy jumped slightly and looked at his roommate, his shock turning to defensive annoyance as he quickly looked down at his food again. "I was thinking! That's all."

No, it wasn't, but... His anger dissipated and Ritsuka slumped back in his chair, tossing his fork onto his tray. "...I'm not having a bad day. It's just that thinking of all the things I need to think about takes it out of me." Rubbing his palms over his face, he tried to clear his head and sighed out between his fingers. "Sorry, I'm not used to..." Augh, he was failing at this. Dropping his hands, he looked over at Nataku again and gave him a brief, somewhat pained smile. The last time he'd tried to talk to a roommate about all the things going wrong in his life, it'd gone and made it worse. And it wasn't like he had the short end of the stick either, so what was there to really complain about? "We're all in the same boat, so I don't see the point in talking about my problems when everyone else is dealing with more important things, so let's move on. Okay?"

Nataku grimaced. "Yeah I know." He had no idea what Ritsuka was thinking about, but even if sleeping a lot was the best thing he could do for his health he would have reacted the same way. Too much sleep was just a waste, and he couldn't stand that.

He looked down at his dinner again and shrugged his shoulders a little at Ritsuka's outburst. He'd gone back to chewing the inside of his lip. It was what he did when he had something to say and he knew he really shouldn't open his mouth without thinking.

"I'm not dealing with more important things." Then he just opened his mouth without thinking anyway and sounded like he was being insolent. "I don't mean -- I mean --" Nataku sighed. What he meant was when you smiled it wasn't supposed to look like your face hurt. "This is too complicated. If you want to talk about stuff, let's talk. There's not really a point. It just makes you feel a little less alone I guess."

Great, now he felt bad. Ritsuka hated that his first reaction to being confronted was to push back like it was some sort of fight. He knew he needed to work on that, but the gut reaction was hard to kill. Ritsuka knew what Nataku was trying to do on an intellectual level. He knew that the other boy was reaching out to him, trying to make a friend, trying to care, but Ritsuka was too cautious to just let him in like that. He hated that about himself, but changing it would take time and as he thought of that, Makiko's words came back like a slap to the face.

"...thanks, I just--" Before he could continue his sentence, the intercom overhead clicked on and Ritsuka narrowed his eyes at it. The night was starting right on time, a little faster than he'd hoped, and the Head Doctor's laughter grated on his ears. It was so happy, so cheerfully fake, and he hated him for that, almost as much as he hated the change from night to day that was slowly overtaking the institute.
