[falling in from here]The sound Kurogane made as he fell echoed in the empty hallway and soon faded out to silence. That had been stupid. He should have been more prepared for the lock to snap suddenly and not have gone tumbling into the hallway like that. But the ninja couldn't take back the action now. At least no one had been around to see him ( Read more... )

Yeah, he was right about that one. It was safer to travel in numbers. Not because more people could take on a given monster any better than one could, but it meant the chance of you being the one chomped on kind of dwindled. After meeting Mr. Spider last time, she was sure there wasn't much that could be done against a lot of the things they had wandering around.

Still she nodded her head vigorously up and down in agreement, as though it would become true if she concurred that much harder. And again he made an offer that was just far too odd compared to the usual. He was offering... to go first? Why? To protect her? This was so strange. Wasn't he taking this Casanova thing a little too fa-- You know what? Whatever. It might actually help out if there was something lurking around.

"You'd... go first?" she repeated in wonderment that was somewhat sincere. She looked up as though considering it, then she nodded. "Hmmm. Okey dokey, then. You can lead and I'll be yer backup!" Harley pointed straight head as though the poor guy would magically be able to see through the gloom to where she was indicating. "We're supposed to go all the way down here and go through the door at the end."

She held up the iron poker in indication. "I'll be right behind ya, 'kay?" Won't whack him in the back of the head or anything either. Though that would be funny. ....Hmmmmmm.

Nah.

Wielding his light like some sort of weapon, Edgar walked cautiously toward the end of the hallway, checking behind him midway to make sure Harley was still following. Somewhere in his mind, the notion appeared that he probably shouldn't be so trusting as to turn his back to a woman he'd met only a short while before. After all, he'd already met several people who seemed less than trustworthy, his roommate included.

Then again, they did have a common goal, were united in the fact that they were both prisoners, and she was terribly cute.

Despite the lack of monsters, the atmosphere in the hallway was tense as they proceeded slowly and quietly, the stifling darkness around them making the light less effective against the shadows than it should have been. They reached the end of the hall, and Edgar shined his light into the next hallway through the open door. "Looks like we're not the first to come through here tonight."
