Night 46: M21-30 Hallway

Shinji hesitated at the threshold and after a moment of horrific indecision and fear he forced himself to take the step out of his room and into dim and darkened hallway. It was all strange again. The people, the appearance of this hallway - so much for hoping that last night might have been a fluke. With a start, he realized he still didn't know

It looked like Sam would be waiting around in their room for the beginning of nightshift, and Peter had to admit he was kind of jealous. It seemed like he was the one who was always running around. Well, except for last night, when Nathan (or "Harrison") had been reckless enough to come find him.

Thinking about it that way, he did prefer being the one who went to meet his brother, rather than the other way around. He knew that on a practical level it was stupid to get so worried, especially when he knew that Nathan had once been in the military, and yet he couldn't stop himself. Some people would have thought it was strange for a younger brother to worry so much about his older sibling, but Peter thought it was warranted with the way the institute had messed around with Nathan so much.

So, even though it was a chore, Peter still didn't hesitate to head out with his shovel and flashlight in hand, as always. He was starting to notice that the flashlight was dimming, which probably meant he'd need to switch out the batteries soon. That just gave him one more thing to worry about, but it didn't rank too high when he still wasn't sure if Nathan was okay or not.

It wasn't like his brother to stay in bed all day even when he wasn't feeling well, but maybe an injured ego was another story. Peter just hoped nothing had gone wrong.

Tightening his jaw, the man briskly strode down the hallway. He couldn't waste any time.
